The United Nations Human rights Council announced itโ will convene an urgent debate โฃon Tuesday, September 16, 2025, regarding Israel’s airstrike targeting Hamas leaders โคinโ Qatar.
The council stated on Monday, September 15,โ 2025, โthat the debate was scheduled followingโฃ the receipt of two formal requests: one from Pakistan on behalf โขof โฃmember states โขof the Institution of Islamic Cooperation,โข and another โfrom Kuwait representing the Cooperation โCouncil โคfor the Arab Statesโค of โขthe โgulf.

U.S. Secretary of State โขRubio Addresses Qatar Strike with Netanyahu
U.S. Secretaryโฃ of State Marco โRubio met with Israeliโ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, September 15, 2025, as the U.S. expresses concern over the airstrikes โขin Qatar, which threaten ongoing efforts to secure a Gaza ceasefire.
Rubio’s visit precedes a French-led โคsummit at the United Nations scheduled for theโข following week, intended to recognize a Palestinian stateโข – aโ prospect strongly opposed by Netanyahu’s government.
Though, discussions are expected to be complex by the fact that the Trump administration was surprised by Israel’s attack in Qatar, which targeted Hamasโฃ leaders engaged in discussions regarding a โฃnew U.S.โ ceasefire proposal for โGaza.
President Donald Trump, โa long-time supporter of Netanyahu,โ reiterated his support for Qatar on Sunday, September 14, 2025, noting Qatar’sโ strong relationship with the โU.S., including โthe presence of the โฃlargest U.S. airโ base in the region and giftsโค suchโค as a luxury jet.
“Qatar has been a very grate โally. โขIsrael and everyone else, we haveโ to be careful. When we attack people we have toโค be careful,” Trump โtoldโ reporters.
Rubioโฃ statedโฃ before departing Washington that “obviously we’re not happy” about theโ strike, but added, โค”Now โwe need to moveโข forward andโ figure out what comes next.” He plans โtoโข discuss โคIsraeli military plans โto seizeโ Gaza City, as well as the government’s โขconsideration of โฃannexing parts of the occupied West Bank, potentially precluding aโค Palestinian โstate.
Trump, according to Rubio, desires a swift resolution to the Gaza war, contingentโ on the releaseโ of hostages and the elimination of Hamas as a threat.
The current โขconflict wasโค initiated by โคHamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on israel, which resulted in 1,219 deaths, the majority of whom were civilians, according to an AFP โค tally of โofficial figures.
Israel’s subsequent military โขcampaign in Gaza has resulted in at โleastโข 64,871 fatalities, also predominantly civilians, according to figures from the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, which โฃthe United Nations considers reliable.
