Kylie Jenner’s ‘King Kylie’ Return Sparks Criticism Over Cultural Appropriation

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor October 14, 2025
written by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Kylie Jenner Revives ‘King Kylie’ ⁤Persona with New Music and Cosmetics Launch

LOS ANGELES‍ – Kylie Jenner is fully embracing her past, reviving the “King⁤ Kylie” persona with a new musical collaboration and coinciding with a ⁤Kylie Cosmetics drop. On Oct. 18, Jenner dyed her hair blue, mirroring a ⁢signature look from the earlier era, and released ‍”Fourth Strike,” a new song with ⁤the musical ⁣duo ⁣Terror Jr.

The track serves as a follow-up to Terror‍ Jr.’s “Three Strikes,” which originally soundtracked a Kylie Cosmetics‍ lip⁢ gloss launch years ago. Jenner’s contribution to ⁣”Fourth Strike”‌ includes ⁢a brief rap verse culminating⁣ in her repeating the phrase “King Kylie.” The⁣ revival ‍has‌ sparked both nostalgia and criticism, with ‌some accusing Jenner of cultural appropriation.

The “King Kylie” era, launched as Jenner built her makeup empire, was characterized by a ‌distinct aesthetic – matte lips, long⁤ nails, and a stylistic embrace of trends ⁢popular⁢ in⁤ hip-hop culture. Her multi-toned lip kits, released under the persona, frequently caused the Kylie Cosmetics website to crash due to ‌high demand.

Though, the reemergence of the persona⁢ has drawn scrutiny online. “The reason she can’t reheat these nachos correctly is because the King Kylie⁣ era was heavily associated with blackness and ⁢Black Culture.King Kylie⁢ was an alter ego borderline. gheto-colored wigs, long nails, rappers, nightlife she was fun.Being Black is fun,” one ⁢user⁤ wrote on X.Another user stated, “Nobody ⁤gagging bc king Kylie era was just Black ‍woman⁤ cosplay.”

Despite the criticism, some fans have expressed excitement about ⁢the nostalgia and praised Jenner’s vocals on the⁢ new track. Jenner, now a ‍billionaire, initially leveraged the “King Kylie” image to build her⁤ prosperous makeup brand.

Nate Bargatze’s Emmy Speech Donation Plan Explained

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 26, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Nate Bargatze Addresses Criticism of Emmys ‌Donation Bit, Says Idea Came From Network ⁢Request

Los ‌Angeles – Comedian Nate Bargatze is defending teh donation-based time limit he ⁣implemented during his hosting of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14, after the bit received⁣ widespread criticism for reportedly rushing winners and creating an ‍awkward atmosphere.Bargatze revealed on his podcast that the concept originated from a request ⁣by the network to find a ⁤solution for shortening the broadcast.

As part of the experiment,‍ Bargatze announced at⁣ the start of the show he would‍ deduct money from ⁤a planned $100,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for each second a winner exceeded the 45-second ‍time ⁢limit for acceptance speeches, and add money if speeches were shorter. A counter displaying the fluctuating donation amount appeared⁢ on screen throughout⁣ the night.

By the end of the evening, Bargatze⁢ declared the final ⁢count “embarrassing” and announced CBS would donate $100,000, and he would personally donate $250,000, bringing the total contribution to $350,000.He later confirmed on his podcast⁤ that he followed through with the donation.

The‌ bit was largely met with negative reactions on social media and in reviews. Time’s Judy Berman wrote the “ill-conceived gimmick weighed down” ‍the evening, while Variety’s Aramide Tinubu noted winners appeared “flustered and rushed, almost racing through their big moment.”

Bargatze⁣ explained on his podcast that the idea “came‍ from a real place of heart” and that he⁣ genuinely attempted‍ to “really⁣ find a solution” to the show’s length. He acknowledged the negative feedback, stating, “y’all don’t want any of this⁣ messed with.”

despite the controversy, the broadcast concluded in approximately three hours, adhering to the scheduled runtime.
