Dark ‍Skies Beckon: Southwest FloridaS Premier Stargazing spots

OKEECHOBEE, FL – Escape the city ⁤glow and‌ witness the brilliance of the Milky Way. Southwest Florida offers ‌accessible ⁣destinations for stargazers, with Kissimmee Prairie⁣ Preserve leading the way as the state’s first designated Dark Sky park. As light pollution⁤ increasingly obscures the night ‍sky, preserving access to these dark havens becomes crucial for astronomical observation, astrophotography, and simply reconnecting with the cosmos.

For residents of Naples and Fort Myers seeking a celestial experience, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve presents a relatively short drive to unparalleled views. Designated by the International Dark Sky Association in 2016, the preserve actively works to minimize light pollution, offering opportunities for after-hours access to fully appreciate the night sky. This comes at a time when 80% of Americans can no longer see the Milky Way due to artificial light, according to the International Dark-Sky Association.

Located at 33104 N.W. 192nd⁤ Ave. in ⁢Okeechobee, the preserve is⁢ approximately 110 miles and a ‌2-hour, 18-minute drive from⁤ Fort Myers, and 146 miles (a 2-hour, 45-minute drive) from Naples.

Access to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve costs $4 per vehicle. While Florida State Parks generally close at sunset, special arrangements can be made ‌to gain ⁤after-hours access for stargazing.Details on obtaining this access are available on the Florida State Parks website: https://www.floridastateparks.org/learn/dark-sky-designation.

The best time to view the ⁢Milky Way in Florida is between April and September, and optimal viewing‍ conditions require moonless nights away from light pollution. Photographers can achieve stunning results with equipment like a Canon 1DX Mark II camera, a 24-70mm lens set at 24mm, an aperture⁤ of 2.8, and an ISO of 1600,⁤ using a ⁣30-second exposure.

Title: South Africa: Tax Return Deadline Approaching

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor October 20, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Today, October 20, 2025, is the final deadline for South African non-provisional taxpayers to file their⁣ annual income tax returns with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter recently reminded taxpayers of the impending deadline, emphasizing the‌ importance‌ of fulfilling their tax obligations.

As⁢ of Wednesday, 7,900,531⁢ non-provisional taxpayers had⁣ already submitted their returns, leaving 854,408 ‌outstanding.

SARS has ⁢focused on simplifying the filing process through‌ digital platforms, Auto⁢ Assessment, and readily available helplines.

“Through enhanced digital platforms, Auto Assessment, and accessible helplines, taxpayers have been⁢ empowered⁤ to meet their obligations with ease⁣ and efficiency,” Kieswetter said.

The revenue service ⁢warns that failure⁢ to file by the deadline constitutes a serious offense, possibly resulting in administrative penalties‌ and interest charges.

“As part of our strategic focus to ⁢encourage voluntary compliance and enforce the law, SARS‍ will continue to identify ⁤and act against those who do not meet their tax obligations,” Kieswetter stated.

SARS emphasizes ‌that tax compliance‍ is crucial for ‍building a ⁤capable state‍ and funding essential public ‍services,⁢ positively impacting the lives of South Africans.

In the 2024 tax year, over 6.7 million non-provisional taxpayers filed income tax returns, including those utilizing the Auto Assessment‌ feature.

This enduring connection isn’t ⁣merely⁤ about product placement;‍ it⁣ reflects ⁤a shared‌ ethos of aspiration and artistry. Rolls-Royce vehicles have become characters in their own right, ‌silently witnessing ⁢pivotal moments in cinematic history and embodying the lifestyles of the rich and famous portrayed on screen. The ongoing‌ presence of Rolls-Royce⁣ in Hollywood underscores the enduring power of luxury⁢ branding ⁢and its ⁣ability to elevate storytelling, while also‍ signaling‍ a continuing cultural⁤ interest⁣ with wealth and prestige.

The association began in 1925, when a Rolls-Royce Phantom I ‍made a cameo in the‍ silent film Ben-Hur. The marque’s presence quickly‌ grew, becoming a fixture in productions⁣ throughout ‌the 1930s and ‍40s, often representing the opulence⁤ of villains ⁣or the aspirational ⁢lifestyles of protagonists. A especially memorable example is the 1931 Phantom II Sedanca⁢ de Ville featured in the 1964 film The Yellow ‍Rolls-Royce, where ‌Shirley‍ MacLaine famously draped herself over the vehicle, cementing ⁢its image as a‌ symbol of decadent luxury.

Throughout the decades,rolls-Royce continued to grace the silver‌ screen, appearing in ‍films like The Godfather (1972) and⁢ Beverly Hills Cop (1984). Marines’ massive demo closes I-5, fueling Newsom–White House feud

I-5 Freeway shut Down for Marine Artillery Exercise ⁤Sparks Political Clash

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif.- A large-scale artillery exercise conducted by the U.S.Marines at Camp Pendleton on Friday‍ forced the complete closure⁢ of Interstate 5,a major transportation artery in Southern California, igniting a political dispute involving California Governor ⁣Gavin Newsom and the White House. ‌The closure, impacting tens of thousands of commuters,⁢ stemmed from ⁤a ‍scheduled live-fire ⁣exhibition involving M777 howitzer⁤ cannons firing west to east of the freeway, beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m.local time.

The Marines‍ conduct⁤ artillery exercises nearly every week, utilizing systems ranging from High ⁣Mobility Air Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to M777 howitzers, according to Capt. dreibelbis.Live-fire training occurs regularly at both the battery and small-unit ⁤levels, with large-scale exercises‍ taking place twice annually‌ at⁣ the regimental ‍level. The M777 howitzer has been in use by the ‍Marines since⁤ 2005 and has seen combat⁤ deployment, including operations in Syria.

“This amphibious demonstration is what Marines and Sailors train for every day,” Capt. Dreibelbis stated. “Weeks of purposeful planning and rehearsals ensured success at every phase of execution, ‌underscoring the Navy-Marine Corps‌ team’s ability to safely conduct ‌complex ‍amphibious operations.”

However, the⁣ freeway shutdown⁢ drew swift criticism ⁢from California Rep. Mike Levin,‌ a Democrat representing the district encompassing Camp Pendleton. In a post on social‌ media, Levin asserted that public safety and‌ the Marine Corps’ reputation were “far more⁤ important than the political agendas of J.D. Vance or Pete Hegseth,” ⁣advocating for⁤ a balance between ⁣honoring the military and ⁢ensuring community wellbeing.

San Diego County Supervisor ⁤Jim Desmond, ‌a Republican representing Camp Pendleton and surrounding ⁣areas, also voiced concerns on social media, criticizing the situation as indicative of a lack of accountability and planning. “No accountability, no ⁢planning – just finger-pointing while everyday people sit in traffic, miss work, and watch their plans fall apart,” Desmond stated.

The incident has quickly become⁤ entangled in broader political ⁣tensions, with initial reports⁣ suggesting ⁣a connection‍ to a dispute between Governor Newsom and the White‍ House regarding military readiness and resource allocation. Further details are emerging as the situation develops.

Deutsche Bahn Unveils ⁣New‍ ICE L Train, Hopes for Punctuality Boost

Deutsche Bahn is rolling out a new ICE L high-speed train, aiming to improve both passenger ‌comfort⁣ and the railway’s historically low ‌on-time performance. The introduction of the new model comes as the railway faces intense scrutiny over delays, with only 55.3 percent of ICE and IC ⁣trains arriving at their destinations punctually in September.

The ‍new ‍trains⁤ are expected to contribute to ⁤more⁣ reliable service through reduced ‌maintenance needs and fewer⁣ technical ⁣issues, according to railway officials. The launch represents a key step in ⁤Deutsche Bahn’s ongoing efforts to modernize‌ its fleet and ⁢address longstanding concerns ⁤about punctuality and accessibility. The railway anticipates that each new train⁣ added ‍to service will bolster operational stability, while⁣ advocates highlight the model’s improved accessibility features.

DB Passenger Long-Distance Transport CEO⁢ Michael Peterson stated‌ that new⁣ trains translate to “less maintenance and less susceptibility to faults – and that’s good ⁤news for ⁤passengers.” Railway boss Palla ⁤echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that “every new train contributes to stable operation.”

The ecological transport club, VCD, praised the ICE L’s accessibility, noting‌ its ground-level boarding capability on standard 76 cm high platforms, facilitating access for passengers‌ using walkers or wheelchairs. However, VCD federal chairwoman Kerstin Haarmann cautioned that further improvements ⁣are‌ needed ⁢for‌ platforms of varying ‌heights, which would require external lifting‍ systems or other ⁤assistance.
