Train โฃDerailment closes Key Queensland rail Line
WARRIGAL, QLD – A train derailment near Warrigal, Queensland, has closed the townsville to Mount Isa railโ line. The incidentโฃ occurred at approximately 1pm on โFriday, impacting both โคfreight โคandโค passenger services.
queensland Rail (QR) reported that one โคlocomotiveโค was on its side,withโข two others leaving the tracks butโ remaining upright.oneโฃ wagon โalso derailed but stayed upright. The train, operated by Qube Holdings, was transporting zinc and copper from mount Isa.
“Emergency โฃservices arrivedโ onsite soon after. โThankfully no injuries were reported,” said QR Head of Regional โฃScott Cornish.
State Emergency Service โคvolunteers were deployed โขas a precaution against a potential fuel spill, but police confirmed noโ spill occurred.
Passenger services โscheduled for the weekend have been replaced by โฃa bus service. “queensland Rail will work with โthe third-partyโ operator to confirm a recovery plan once inspections are completed,” Cornish โadded.
Qube holdings released a statement expressing relief that the train crew was โunharmed. “Recovery efforts are continuing at the site, and we are naturally working withโฃ relevant โขagencies to supportโ investigations into the cause ofโข the incident,” a spokesperson said.
The rail line remains closed as assessments continue. The derailment occurred โขbetween Pentland and Torrens Creek.
