Bull loose at Newark Penn Station disrupts rail traffic

A bull loose in New Jersey’s largest city made its way onto railroad tracks, disrupting rail traffic Thursday before being captured, authorities said.

The reddish-brown bull with long, dark-tipped horns stood on the tracks at Newark’s Penn Station, prompting a police response and halting train traffic between New Jersey and New York’s Penn Station for nearly an hour. hour, according to New Jersey Transit.

Police eventually cornered the animal in a fenced lot about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from the station, according to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé. The bull will be sent to a local animal sanctuary, Fragé said.

No injuries were reported, the director said.

It was not immediately clear exactly how the bull was released, who owned it and other details about the bull’s ride through Newark.

It was not the first time a bull was loose in Newark.

In 2006, it took authorities 10 hours to capture a bull that wandered through the city, according to NBC News. Two years earlier, a steer escaped from a slaughterhouse and wandered around Newark before being captured and sent to a sanctuary, NBC reported.

Renovations of Third Avenue are completed – it is safer today, they say

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Department of Transportation is celebrating the completion of renovations to Third Avenue that are said to have made it a safer thoroughfare.

The new design includes more wide bike lanes along the 40 blocks between East 59th Street and East 96th Street.

“This ‘Complete Street’ is now complete 🎉

“Our major traffic safety project on 3rd Ave (E 59th St to E 96th St) with redesigns of every intersection, a 1.9-mile protected #BikeNYC lane, and a new displaced bus lane with more reliable service for 50 thousand daily passengers is now finished!” writes the DOT in a message on social networks.

The project is part of the Complete Streets Act. This legislation, enacted in 2011, requires state, local, and county agencies to consider the convenience and mobility of all users when developing transportation projects.

The stretch will reduce speeding and dangerous intersections.

Third Avenue recorded a total of 37 serious injuries and seven traffic fatalities between 2016 and 2022.

The design will also offer a faster and more reliable bus service for the 50,000 users of lines M-98, M-101, 102 and 103.

Bus users: some agree about how slow it is, others satisfied

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 29, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“I walk to work and I get there before them,” Luis Pinales said of the MTA buses.

According to an analysis by the AMNY newspaper, buses operated by the MTA, or the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, traversed the streets of the Big Apple at a snail’s pace during the first 10 months of the year at an average of 8.18 miles per hour.

That is, just a little more than double what it takes the average person to walk about four miles per hour.

The study says that in 2022 buses were traveling at 8.21 and 8.3 in 2021, showing a continued downward trend.

Passengers in Washington Heights agree:

“When they are in the Manhattan area it seems to me that it goes a little faster, but when they are in the Bronx area it is horrible, horrible! is delayed. One day I remember that I left work at 3:30 and I got home at five and I don’t live, I don’t work very far away,” said Nancy Ensico.

Ensico.

“In addition to the fact that there are a lot of cars, a lot of traffic jams, they are very slow, especially those that go along Broadway, the 100, the 101 are very slow and you have to wait a long time, 15 minutes waiting for it,” added Luis Pinales.

Riders Alliance, a pro-public transportation user organization, reminds us that, by law, the city must implement 30 miles of exclusive bus lanes every year by 2026.

“We have been implementing this for two years now and fortunately we only have about seven miles that have been done currently in the five boroughs,” said Mayra Aldás, Riders Alliance. The other would be, obviously, to implement what is the cameras to penalize those people who use cars not to block the bus lines.”

Meanwhile, the MTA says it is redesigning bus networks and routes in all counties.

And on the streets, we also find those who are happy with the service.

Martínez.

“Mostly when I get on the bus they are quite, quite fast,” said Luis Martínez.

-So, are you happy with the bus system?

“Yes, very happy.”

MTA urges people to use public transportation during the holidays

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 23, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The MTA says it is working overtime this holiday season so all travelers can reach their destinations.

The agency encourages New Yorkers to use public transportation and will provide additional service in the morning for riders attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

There will be additional services to accommodate spectators on the Line 1 train and the 42nd Street shuttle.

“Happy Thanksgiving, riders! This year, and every year, we are grateful to you,” the MTA wrote in a message on social media.

The Long Island Rail Road will also have additional trains today.

All routine maintenance on the city’s tunnels and bridges will be suspended to make way for heavy traffic.

This Thanksgiving, the city’s subway and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule and the Staten Island Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule.

For real-time information and service updates, users can visit their website or download their app and receive the latest alerts.

Renovated entrances to Penn Station inaugurate

Renovated entrances to Penn Station inaugurate

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 21, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Penn Station entrance here on 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue has a new face and this remodeling increases its entrance capacity by 50% and now, in addition, it will be fully accessible to everyone.

Just before this week of travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, Penn Station reopens its entrance on Seventh Avenue, now completely remodeled:

The entrance, much more illuminated and ventilated, is wider and more friendly so that the 600 thousand passengers who use this station daily to travel throughout the country can enter and exit quickly.

“Well, it was a little stale. It was practically an old staircase. I didn’t have any clues. Pleasant. Attractive. Especially for this area, which is totally touristy. So it was a big change,” says Juana Lapaix, a Penn Station user.

The entrance is made with all American Accessibility Association compliant features including:

A new elevator: fully accessible for people with disabilities, which also facilitates the movement of mothers and fathers with cars and passengers with large luggage.

Instead of two escalators, there are now three.

Wider sidewalks making the area easier and safer to navigate.

The canopy or cover, previously a concrete cantilever built in 1967, was replaced with a glass one that allows natural light to enter the lower station.

We spoke with some passengers, very happy with this change:

NATALIA CASTRO, Penn Station passenger

“Well, it seems very good to me, since we now have more facilities to transport ourselves and go out more. But of course, for a train, for buses, everything.”

Juana Lapaix, Penn Station passenger

“Excellent, it is very pretty, very useful for pedestrians. It is also something that makes it easier for us to get to station number 32. So it is affordable, very affordable. “It turned out very pretty.”

And some travel recommendations, since according to Triple A, 55 million people are expected to travel by land, sea and air for the holiday: buy your tickets in advance.

If you are traveling by land by train or bus, arrive at least 30 minutes before your travel time.

If it is by plane and domestic flight, be at least 2 hours before.

And for those traveling by car, it is best to leave early in the morning or after 6 pm to avoid the heaviest congestion.

According to INRIX, which provides transportation data and projections, it predicts that Wednesday, November 22 will be the busiest day on the road.

Patsi we once again reiterate these recommendations to our viewers, whether they travel through Penn Station or otherwise.]]
