There has reportedly been a partial derailment of a subway train at the 96th Street station on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, according to official reports.

In the incident there were more than 20 people with minor injuries, who were traveling on a line 1 train heading north (Uptown). The authorities received the first calls for help around 3 p.m.

The line 1 train would have hit a train without passengers (a work train, they call it, with four employees).

The impact caused the passenger train to partially derail.

The work train had previously had its emergency brakes vandalized and workers were repairing it, MTA officials said. During the repair, one of these brakes would have returned to its normal state (that is, it stopped stopping the train) and that is when the train moved in the direction where the line 1 train was coming from.

The MTA made an announcement on social media about the suspension of service on several subway lines.

“There is a major disruption to 1/2/3 service as emergency crews assist passengers and conduct an investigation after a train derailed near 96 St.

All passengers on train 1 were evacuated.

Later, Mayor Adams also posted a message on social media about the incident.

“Our team is responding to the train derailment on the 1/2/3 line at 96th Street. Emergency personnel from @FDNY and @NYPDNews are on the ground assisting in efforts. Please avoid the area of ​​96th and Broadway if you can “wrote the mayor.

The firefighters also posted a message on social networks informing them of the work they had done since they were called to respond to the emergency.
