Sunday, October 5th, 2025: Shopping Restrictions Remain in Place
Warsaw, Poland โ – Polish consumers planning shoppingโ trips on โsunday, October 5th,โ 2025, โฃshould be aware that a nationwide trade ban will be in โคeffect. Major retailers โฃincluding Lidl, Biedronka, Kaufland, and shopping malls will be closed, as the current regulations limiting commercial activity on Sundays remain unchanged.
The โคrestrictions stem from the Act on Sunday and holidays, โฃadopted in 2018, which permits full trade operations only on a limited number โคof designated Sundays each year.โ Despite ongoingโ discussions and draft amendments proposing greater liberalization – including potential allowances for two commercial Sundays per month – these changes have not been enacted. This means shoppers face a lengthyโค wait until the โnextโ permitted shopping Sunday on December 7th, 2025.
Currently, only select establishmentsโ are โexempt from the ban.Consumers will still be ableโข to shop at smaller, independent stores, ลปabka convenience stores, gas stations, and through โฃonline retailers.
For 2025, the eight designated commercial Sundays are: January โฃ26, April 13,โ April 27, June 29, August 31, December 7, december 14, and December 21. The โข2026โ calendar will โคmirror 2025, โwith eight permitted shopping Sundays: January 25, March 29, April โข26, Juneโ 28, August 30,โค December 6, December 13, and December 20. โ
Recent political โdevelopments, including the appointment of Karol Nawrocki as president โrepresenting Law and Justice, suggestโ that meaningful changes to the existing โlaw are unlikely in the near future. Proposed amendments that would haveโฃ allowed trade on all โSundays except the first and third of the month, with guaranteed double pay and a day off for โemployees, remain โstalled.
