Raipur, Chhattisgarh – Trinamool Congressโ (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra is โfacing legal action after โanโค FIR was registered against her in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday for allegedly making “objectionable” remarks against union Home Minister Amitโ Shah.โค The case stems from comments Moitra reportedly made during a media interaction on Thursday, accusing Shah of neglecting his โฃresponsibilities regarding border security.
The FIR, filed by Raipur resident gopal Samanto, โขaccuses โMoitra of offenses โunder Indian Penal Codeโข sections 196 (promotingโฃ enmity between different groups) and 197โ (imputations prejudicialโข to national integration).โ Samanto โฃalleges Moitra’s โstatements have instilled fear among Bangladeshi refugees residing in Raipur’s Mana Camp area sinceโค 1971 and could incite communal tensions.
This action follows separate police complaints filed โฃagainst Moitra by BJP leaders in West Bengal, specifically in Krishnanagar and Kolkata. These โcomplaints โขalso reference remarks Moitra made questioning the voting patterns โof โbeneficiaries of โWest Bengal state โschemes, notably within scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Namasudra โcommunities. โ
According to reports,Moitra was purportedly heard saying that voters who benefitโข from โฃschemes like Laxmi Bhandar and Swasthya Sathi still vote โขfor the โBJP during elections, questioning their allegiance. She also reportedly referred to ‘Tulsi Malas’ as “wooden malas,” prompting accusations from BJP state legal co-incharge โขTarunjyoti โTiwari that the โคTMC is “against Hindus.” Tiwari further contested Moitra’s claim that state government doles were funded by the TMC, stating they are derived from taxpayers’ money.
