Astronomers Discover Two Super Earths Orbiting Nearby Dwarf Star TOI-2095

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com May 6, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

An international group of astronomers has discovered two exoplanets orbiting a nearby dwarf star known as TOI-2095, which is 137 light-years from the Sun.

Using NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an international team of astronomers discovered the two exoplanets orbiting the dwarf star at short orbital periods.

According to the results published in the journal arXiv, the new celestial bodies, called TOI-2095 b and TOI-2095 c, belong to the category of “super-Earths”. Their sizes range from 1 to 4 Earth radii.

The TESS satellite is surveying about 200,000 of the brightest stars near the sun, with the aim of searching for transiting exoplanets, ranging from small rocky worlds to gas giants.

To date, 6,400 exoplanet candidates (TESS Objects of Interest, or TOI) have been identified, of which 330 have been confirmed so far.

Now, a team of astronomers led by Felipe Morgas of the University of La Laguna, Spain, reports that two exoplanets detected by TESS have been confirmed.

By making optical observations and radial velocity measurements, they found that the transit signals in TOI-2095’s light curve are planetary in nature.

According to the study, the TOI-2095 b planet is about 25% larger than Earth and has an orbit of 17.66 days. It is closest to its host star, at a distance of about 0.1 astronomical unit (AU), and has an equilibrium temperature of 73.85 degrees Celsius (347 K), while Its mass is estimated to not exceed 4.1 Earth masses.

As for the second planet in the TOI-2095 c system, it has a radius of about 1.33 Earth’s radii, and it orbits its host every 28.17 days, at a distance of about 0.137 astronomical units from it. TOI-2095 c has an equilibrium temperature of approximately 23.85 °C (297 K), and its maximum mass has been calculated to be 7.4 Earth masses.

The host star, TOI-2095, is about 56% smaller in mass than the Sun. It is a red dwarf star of spectral class M2.5 V, has an effective temperature of 3,485 °C (3,759 K), and metallicity (abundances of iron and hydrogen) at -0.24. The star is estimated to be at least a billion years old.

The paper’s authors note that the newly discovered exoplanets are close to the inner edge of TOI-2095’s habitable zone and that their parameters make them attractive targets for further follow-up observations.

“Will Banks in Lebanon Start Giving Loans to Citizens Again?”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 27, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

When the Lebanese citizen needed to buy something, he would resort to banks that would give him a loan of a certain amount under certain conditions to facilitate his life and secure his requirements.
But nearly four years ago, banks stopped giving bank loans to citizens because of the crisis that everyone knows and is living its repercussions.
It seems that the Lebanese have begun to adapt to the current situation in the country and are now feeling that they are in dire need for banks to return to giving loans to facilitate their lives in all respects.

Will banks return to giving loans to citizens again?
In this context, economist and banker Nassib Ghobril stressed that “banks are the party that wants to lend the private sector the most, but the situation is still not conducive to starting this step.”

And he stressed that “if we want to look at the consolidated budget of the banking sector, we see that it has declined since the beginning of 2019 in the size of the credit portfolio to the private sector by 40 billion dollars, which means a decline of 67%, including loans in foreign currencies, which fell by 31 billion and 300 million dollars, which means a decrease.” 76%, this shows that individuals and companies repay their loans at 1,500, and companies that have taken loans repay them by “checks” at a very small percentage of the real value of the loans.

And Gabriel believed that “the banks have a barrier, if they want to lend as before, how will the money be returned in pounds or through checks, and this thing is harmful to the depositor and the banks.”

He pointed out that “in order for banks to lend, they need sufficient deposits, and today this thing is not available because of the crisis and because of the cessation of the flow of deposits and capital to Lebanon, especially after the decision of the last government, to default on the payment of “Eurobond” bonds in March 2020, which led to To the marginalization of Lebanon from the global financial, banking and commercial system.

And he added, “Today, in the face of the lack of a clear vision for the economic future of Lebanon, on what basis will banks lend to citizens?”

And he considered that “the circumstance is not appropriate for banks to return to lending, even for a small amount, although this is the basic task of banks, but it is idle because of the crisis and because of the officials’ neglect of reform.”

He continued, “The banks are eagerly awaiting the return of deposits to return and lend again, especially if they make sure that if they take this step, the loan holders will pay the sums with fresh.”

Eurozone Resumes Growth in First Quarter Despite War on Borders

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 23, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

the East

The Eurozone may have resumed growth in the first quarter as the four largest economies proved resilient enough to weather the fallout from the ongoing war on the region’s borders.

According to the median of 31 forecasts for data due out on April 28, the currency area’s gross domestic product increased by 0.2% after stagnating in the final months of 2022.

Economists believe that both Germany and Italy have succeeded in touching growth during that quarter after previous contractions. Meanwhile, France and Spain are expected to continue to grow.

This overwhelmingly positive result clearly reflects the fact that the eurozone, supported by government aid to businesses and consumers, has weathered the cost of living crisis and strike unrest in France and Germany to defy the gloomy outlook for a depressed winter in the region.

In conjunction with purchasing managers’ numbers showing continued momentum in the current quarter, the data may encourage European Central Bank officials to continue raising interest rates to curb inflation after global banking tensions prompted caution when approving their policies.
In a sign that the Bank’s officials may not be done yet, growth figures are set to be released next week in conjunction with April consumer price reports from three of the largest countries.

Inflation exceeds the “central” target
Economists expect core inflation, as measured by EU standards, to remain steady at 7.8% in Germany and 6.7% in France, while it may accelerate to 3.8% in Spain. Such results would be well above the ECB’s 2% target. Data for Italy and the Eurozone will be released the following week.

“The resilience of the economy means that continued labor market tightening will keep core inflation at a higher level for longer,” Bloomberg Economics said in a report.

Growth data due next Friday will also include numbers from Austria, Belgium and Portugal, but Germany is likely to get the most attention.

Less than six months ago, Europe’s largest economy was expected to suffer the worst recession in the region. Now such a recession may have been averted, as German central bank officials recently predicted a recession in the first quarter, and even estimates from a group of leading institutions point to a return to growth.

Other economies may also perform better than expected. The Bank of France this month raised its growth estimate for the past quarter, counting on stronger-than-expected activity outweighing the downturn caused by strikes and protests over the pension law.

The Bank of Italy believes its economy may have returned to “modest” growth, according to statements attributed to lawmakers this week. In Spain, officials say growth exceeded expectations in the first quarter.

Growth prospects in the Eurozone may now be more positive going into the second quarter after purchasing managers’ indices in both Germany and France beat economists’ expectations with a jump in private sector output.

Such a backdrop may encourage the ECB to continue raising interest rates on May 4 to a level not yet determined by officials, with the possibility of further increases after that.

While Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Fiesco called for caution amid a credit slowdown, fellow Dutch central bank governor Claes Nott openly asked whether borrowing costs should continue to rise in June and July.
