Portsmouth: New Home Development Plan Approved at Banfield & Peverly Hill

by Priya Shah – Business Editor October 24, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Portsmouth Approves Plan for Five⁢ $1 Million+ Homes Off Banfield Road

PORTSMOUTH, NH – October 24, 2025 – The Portsmouth Zoning Board recently ⁣granted site plan ‍approval for a five-lot residential development off Banfield Road,‍ with each home anticipated to⁤ sell for over $1 ⁣million. Chinburg Properties, a Newmarket-based‍ developer, will construct the ‍single-family houses and associated site amenities as part of each lot‌ sale.

The development will feature two lots accessed ‌via ⁢a shared driveway entrance on Peverly Hill Road, across from ‌the‍ YMCA, and three lots accessed through a ⁤single, shared driveway on Banfield Road. A key component of ⁣the plan is the⁢ preservation of a “wetland buffer along the Banfield Road frontage ⁢of ⁣the parcel.”

According to project documents presented ‌by Alexx Monastiero ‍of the Gove ‍Group, representing Chinburg Properties, the single driveway off Banfield Road‍ was ⁣designed to allow a large majority of existing, mature trees to remain, creating “a natural buffer between Banfield⁤ Road and the new homes.”⁣ The development will also ⁣utilize overhead power ‌lines to further limit‍ disturbance to the wetland buffer.

Chinburg Builders, founded by New Hampshire native Eric Chinburg in ‍1987,is⁤ a well-established developer in the Seacoast region, with projects in Portsmouth,Dover, and Newmarket.‌ monastiero noted the company is currently building “a number of approved projects in the ⁤city.”

The‍ development site ‌is located near Route 1, the YMCA, Market Basket, and other restaurants and stores.

SALEM, Ore. – A⁤ new restaurant, Encore, is set to open at the Grand Theatre in downtown Salem on Oct.30, bringing⁣ a diverse⁢ menu and a ⁣”date night spot” atmosphere to the location. The opening fills a⁤ vacancy left after Paradiso at the Grand closed in July, ⁣continuing a revolving door of‌ restaurants at the‍ High and Court streets corner.

Encore aims to offer a broad appeal, featuring house specialties like ⁢gnocchi made from a family recipe passed down for generations‍ and‌ ceviche inspired ⁢by the Oregon coast and Jalisco, Mexico.owner Franco‌ Fuentes plans ‍to emphasize seasonal specials and locally sourced ingredients alongside steak, ⁤seafood, pasta, wine, and craft cocktails. “We also⁣ recognise the need in Salem for a traditional ‘date night⁤ spot,'” Fuentes said.

Where are the best places to see the stars in Naples, Fort Myers?

Dark ‍Skies Beckon: Southwest FloridaS Premier Stargazing spots

OKEECHOBEE, FL – Escape the city ⁤glow and‌ witness the brilliance of the Milky Way. Southwest Florida offers ‌accessible ⁣destinations for stargazers, with Kissimmee Prairie⁣ Preserve leading the way as the state’s first designated Dark Sky park. As light pollution⁤ increasingly obscures the night ‍sky, preserving access to these dark havens becomes crucial for astronomical observation, astrophotography, and simply reconnecting with the cosmos.

For residents of Naples and Fort Myers seeking a celestial experience, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve presents a relatively short drive to unparalleled views. Designated by the International Dark Sky Association in 2016, the preserve actively works to minimize light pollution, offering opportunities for after-hours access to fully appreciate the night sky. This comes at a time when 80% of Americans can no longer see the Milky Way due to artificial light, according to the International Dark-Sky Association.

Located at 33104 N.W. 192nd⁤ Ave. in ⁢Okeechobee, the preserve is⁢ approximately 110 miles and a ‌2-hour, 18-minute drive from⁤ Fort Myers, and 146 miles (a 2-hour, 45-minute drive) from Naples.

Access to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve costs $4 per vehicle. While Florida State Parks generally close at sunset, special arrangements can be made ‌to gain ⁤after-hours access for stargazing.Details on obtaining this access are available on the Florida State Parks website: https://www.floridastateparks.org/learn/dark-sky-designation.

The best time to view the ⁢Milky Way in Florida is between April and September, and optimal viewing‍ conditions require moonless nights away from light pollution. Photographers can achieve stunning results with equipment like a Canon 1DX Mark II camera, a 24-70mm lens set at 24mm, an aperture⁤ of 2.8, and an ISO of 1600,⁤ using a ⁣30-second exposure.
