Boring Company โTunnelingโฃ Halted โin โฃLas vegas Following โWorker injury
Lasโ Vegas, NV โข – Tunneling operations at a Boring Company construction site in Lasโค Vegas โhave been temporarily suspended after aโค worker sustained โคa โ”crushing injury” onโค Tuesday, according to a Nevadaโ OSHA inquiry. The incident raises renewed scrutiny of safety protocols โขat โขthe Elon โขMusk-owned โinfrastructure firm, which has been expanding its tunnel network beneath the city.
The injured worker, โwhoseโ name has not been released, was โreportedly involved in an incident while working on a tunnelโฃ intended to run below Las โขVegas Boulevard. โNevada โฃOSHA confirmed the injury and โinitiated a probe into the circumstances surrounding โit.โ The halt in constructionโ impacts the project’s timeline,โ which aims to connect various points โคwithin the city limits.
this incidentโฃ followsโค previous safety concerns regarding The Boring Company’s Las Vegas projects.โค Inโ early 2024, regulators briefly shutโข down the Las Vegas Monorail after Boring Company workers dug too close to its foundation while โconstructing โขa tunnel to the Wynn and Encore resorts. โคFollowing โ Fortune’s โreporting on that incident, theโ Las Vegas โขConvention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) increased its oversight of theโค company’s work, appointing an โemployee to directly supervise safety measures. the LVCVA CEO โฃstated a few weeksโฃ ago that there had beenโข no major safety incidents reported since the increasedโข oversight.
the Boring Company has recently been testingโฃ self-driving Tesla vehicles, with safety drivers present, within the tunnels under theโค Las vegas Convention Center. The company is also preparing forโข another โคtunnel systemโฃ in nashville, while still awaiting city permits to continue construction on the Las Vegas Boulevard โฃproject.
Theโ Boring Company has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the latest incident.
