What you should know

The daily rainfall trend could continue in parts of the tri-state area on Monday, with some rainfall becoming heavy at times. A flood watch is in effect for New York City, as well as neighboring counties in northeastern New Jersey , Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut into the evening. Cooler weather is expected as fall slowly approaches.

NEW YORK — After a weekend of storms, the daily rain trend could continue in parts of the tri-state area on Monday, with some showers becoming heavy at times.

More rounds of scattered storms are expected overnight, possibly lingering until kickoff of the Jets’ game against Buffalo at MetLife Stadium at 8 p.m. At times, there is a chance for heavy downpours, which could lead to flash flooding .

At the Bills game against the Jets at MetLife Stadium, a shelter-in-place warning was issued around 5:30 p.m. Due to inclement weather, guests are advised to stay in their cars first.

The stadium is now recommending visitors seek shelter in their cars or inside the stadium.

A flood watch is in effect for New York City, as well as neighboring counties in northeastern New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. There could be up to 3 inches of rain in locations affected by slow-moving precipitation showers. Some thunder and lightning are possible, although destructive winds are not expected. Urban areas, streams and places with poor drainage are most vulnerable to flooding.

A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of southern Westchester County and eastern Bergen County until 8:45 p.m.

By 6 pm, thunderstorms were moving through Hudson County.

Storms are expected to last until 9 p.m.

There will also be some showers and storms on Tuesday. Basically, the pattern remains unsettled with chances for afternoon and evening storms into Wednesday before we finally get a strong enough front to move through and clear things up. The front clears Wednesday, and after the showers and storms that should end early, humidity should begin to drop quickly and skies will clear.

It will be cooler and drier/comfortable starting Thursday. But then our attention turns to Hurricane Lee in the Atlantic. As of Monday, it appears the storm will remain far enough to the east to have minimal impacts on the tri-state area, although the New England coast could be buffeted by the edge of the storm.

What Lee, a Category 3 hurricane, will do in the New York area is keep things dry and breezy for several days, assuming it maintains its current track. It could bring some waves and rough surf to those along the coast, with maximum impacts expected from late Friday afternoon into early Saturday.

What is the forecast for the next 10 days?

After a stormy Friday and Saturday, the daily rain trend could continue in parts of the tri-state area on Sunday and Monday, the 9/11 commemoration. Not all areas will see storms on Sunday, but once again it is possible that localized flooding may occur where storms decide to set in. Not all areas will see storms on Sunday, but localized flooding is once again possible where storms decide to establish themselves.

Damaging winds are less of a concern today, but watch the weather because any strong storms could produce short gusts.

Will rain affect Sunday’s Yankees or Giants games?

Any storms on Sunday will be more scattered in nature, so it’s a little trickier to say where the storms will appear, but it’s possible we could get just as much rain for the Brewers vs. Yankees in the Bronx for Sunday night’s Cowboys vs. Giants at MetLife.

Severe Storms Continue to Ravage Tri-State Area: What You Need to Know

What you should know

After battling the first heat wave of the summer, and in September no less, a ferocious round of storms hit the tri-state area for several hours on Friday. The area will see another round of strong to severe storms on Saturday afternoon, with strong Localized rainfall and flooding and damaging winds once again possible. Flash flood warnings, as well as a thunderstorm warning, were issued Saturday afternoon for parts of New Jersey and New York City.

NEW YORK — There’s a lot to clean up Saturday after the previous day’s storms toppled countless trees onto homes, cars and, in one case, a school bus.

After battling the first heat wave of the summer, and in September no less, a ferocious round of storms hit the tri-state area for several hours Friday afternoon. Downed cables and power outages to tens of thousands of customers were also blamed on the winds.

On Friday night, an estimated 30,000 customers were in the dark in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Saturday started off very muggy, with the lingering fog lifting as the morning progressed. The area will see another round of strong to severe storms Saturday afternoon, with heavy rain and localized flooding and damaging winds once again possible.

Flash flood warnings were issued for parts of New York City on Saturday afternoon, as was a thunderstorm warning for several counties in New Jersey and the Big Apple. These were due to expire by 5:30 pm on Saturday.

The possibility of scattered storms persists through Sunday and Monday, although their coverage and intensity is likely to decrease each day. The area will finally get a short break on Tuesday before another round of wet weather on Wednesday and Thursday, when temperatures return to below 80 degrees.

So, when do you start to feel a drop in temperature? That will start to arrive on Sunday, when it will be noticeably cooler. The humidity will take longer to subside, however, and it won’t be until late next week when we see highs much closer to normal for this time of year, and not as much humidity.

Heat Warning Continues as Storm Threat Looms in Tri-State Area

What you should know

A heat warning is in effect for all five boroughs and nearly all of northern New Jersey, as well as parts of the Hudson Valley, through Friday night. Relief is still a day away, but a strong wind threat could move forward heading into the tri-state to start the weekend. Cooler temperatures are expected after the weekend, after thunderstorms and showers arrive on Friday and Saturday.

NEW YORK — The heat wave may be in the past, but high temperatures are not done with us yet and are expected to persist through Friday. The humidity would remain for the next few days.

After Central Park hit 90 degrees for the third day in a row on Thursday, Friday promises a slight drop in degrees. It’s far from a cooldown, though, because heat indices will be well into the 90s. (Central Park hadn’t seen at least three straight days of 90 degrees or higher all year before this week.)

A heat warning remains in effect for the five boroughs and nearly all of northern New Jersey, as well as parts of the Hudson Valley, through Friday night. Additionally, potentially severe weather is also expected Friday night.

Similar to what occurred Thursday night, a significant storm threat could arrive as early as Friday afternoon. Wind damage appears to be the main threat, accompanied by the possibility of hail.

The storms on Thursday and Friday will be two of several rounds of storms between Friday and early Monday.

So when do colder temperatures return? That will start to arrive on Sunday, when it will be noticeably cooler. On Tuesday there will be less humidity and on Wednesday temperatures will drop into the 70s, much more normal for this time of year.

End of Summer Heatwave Hits New York City and New Jersey

what to know

A heat advisory was issued Monday for all five counties and most of northern New Jersey, as well as parts of the Hudson Valley. No relief is in sight for the rest of the week: Highs will remain at the 90-degree mark. or just above it daily through Thursday. Rapid cooling is expected through the weekend after thunderstorms and downpours on Friday and Saturday.

NEW YORK — If Labor Day weekend is supposed to be the farewell to summer, the season is certainly ending on a very hot note.

Temperatures were expected to reach the 90s Monday across much of the New York City area, creating steamy conditions as many people appeared to have late-summer cookouts before heading back to work and the school. A heat advisory has been issued for all five counties and most of northern New Jersey, as well as parts of the Hudson Valley.

Humidity won’t help anyone find relief either, as temperatures will feel even higher, well into the mid-90s for most, though interior areas could hit the upper 90s, prompting a few backyard parties. very sweaty Although it’s ideal beach weather, watch out for strong rip currents along the Jersey shore.

No relief in sight for the rest of the week. As the kids wait for the school bus Tuesday through Friday, it won’t feel like fall just yet. Highs will remain at or just above the 90 degree mark every day through Thursday.

Rain is expected from Thursday through Friday, which will help bring temperatures down a bit, but the humidity will remain through the weekend. The weather will remain unsettled on Saturday, with another chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Following those storms, a cooler pattern finally emerges in the extended forecast, with highs sticking in the law in the mid-70s for much of the next week.
