Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Manager Thai national teamNualphan Lamsam or known Madam Pangmake sure Alexandre ‘Mano’ Polking fired from his position as coach of the Thai national team.

Madam Pang revealed this certainty through her account Facebook officially on Wednesday (22/11). Madam Pang said the bad results in the 2026 World Cup Qualification, when Thailand was defeated by China 1-2, was the main reason.

“In the 2026 World Cup Qualification, which has already lasted two matches, it cannot be denied that all parties expected more results. But the results did not meet expectations, especially in the first match at home we lost to China 1-2, which damaged and affected our chances. into the third round with four matches remaining,” wrote Madam Pang.

Madam Pang admitted that she had spoken with the President of the Football Federation of Thailand (FAT) Somyot Poompanmoung and Mano Polking regarding the decision to change the Thai national team coach.

“Madam Pang informed the president of the association and has spoken with Mano Polking that it is time for changes to be made. So that the Thai national team will be better prepared when appearing at the 2023 Asian Cup,” wrote Madam Pang.

Madam Pang further thanked Polking for his contribution as coach of the Thai national team, especially when he brought the War Elephant Team to win the AFF Cup twice in a row in 2020 and 2022.

“Before we part, Madam Pang as team manager would like to thank coach Polking, including the coaching team for their dedication and commitment over the last two years, which has brought happiness to the Thai people by bringing the team to ASEAN champions twice in a row,” wrote Madam Pang.

As Polking’s replacement, Madam Pang has appointed a coach from Japan, Masatada Ishii, who since 2019 has had a career in the Thai League with Samut Prakan City and Buriram United.

“For the new head coach position, we have had the best considerations before concluding that we will appoint Japanese coach Masatada Ishii along with a personal coaching staff to replace him immediately,” wrote Madam Pang.

Polking actually still has a contract with the Thai national team until March 2024 or after the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Thai national team lost 0-2 to Iran in the round of 16 in men’s football Asian Games 2023 di Stadion Shangcheng Sports Centre, Hangzhou, Rabu (27/9).

Iran’s two goals against Thailand could not be separated from goalkeeper Nopphon Lakhonphon’s mistakes. Iran took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute through Amir Arsalan Motahari’s goal. The goal started from a blunder made by Nopphon.

Intending to build an attack from below, Nopphon actually made a blunder. Nopphon took too long to kick until the ball hit Arsalan’s foot and went into the Thai goal.

Throughout the first 45 minutes of the first half, Iran dominated the attacks. Even Thailand is more under siege. Luckily the team’s defense line coached by Issara Sritaro was very strong.

Thailand was also not without opportunities in the first half. In the 39th minute, Thailand scored a goal through Yotsakorn Burapha’s hard kick. But the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

Thailand also had a chance in the 45th minute. The War Elephant Team threatened with a counterattack, but Kittisak Phutchan’s kick after receiving Yotsakorn’s pass was too weak and was easily anticipated by Iranian goalkeeper Seyed Hossein.

In the second half Thailand seemed to play better than Iran. Thailand threatened several times and had golden opportunities, but always failed to break into Iran’s goal.

Having fun attacking, Thailand actually experienced a disaster in the 79th minute. Nopphon fouled the Iranian striker in the penalty box. The referee also pointed to the spot.

Yasin Salmani, who stepped up as penalty executor, did his job perfectly. The score of 2-0 for Iran lasted until the match was over.

In the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Games, Sunday (1/9), Iran will face the winner between Hong Kong vs Palestine.

Other Southeast Asian representatives, Indonesia and Myanmar, will compete on Thursday (28/9). Indonesia will face Uzbekistan and Myanmar will challenge Japan.
