Windows 11 Gains New “Click to Do” Action & Enhanced Braille Support
Microsoft has expanded Windows 11’s “Click to Do” functionality and introduced a built-in Braille viewer within the Narrator screen reader. The updates, detailed by Window Forest, aim to improve accessibility and streamline common tasks for a wider range of users.
The “Click to Do” action, currently available in the Windows Insider Program, allows users to right-click on any item in the taskbar to access a customizable menu of actions. However, it’s currently limited to work or school accounts (Entra ID) and is unavailable in the European Economic Area (EEA). Simultaneously, the Narrator app now features a Braille viewer, enabling simultaneous text and braille expression viewing – a valuable tool for Braille learners, developers, and testers.
To utilize the Braille viewer, users must first enable Braille output within Narrator’s settings (Accessibility – narrator – Use Braille Display with Narrator) and install the necessary braille package. The viewer is activated using the Windows + Ctrl + Enter keys to launch Narrator, followed by the Narrator key (typically No Conversion or Insert) + Alt + B. The viewer displays a number of Braille cells equivalent to the size of a connected Braille display, defaulting to 40 cells if no display is present, with adjustable settings available.
