Saskatchewan Focuses onโ Support, Awareness as alzheimer’s Casesโข Expected to Triple
Swift Current, SK – As World Alzheimer’s Day isโค observed today, Saskatchewan residents โare being reminded of โthe growing need โขfor support adn resources โฃas the number ofโ individuals diagnosedโ with โthe disease is projected to tripleโฃ by 2050. Currently, approximatelyโฃ 20,000 people โฃin the province are living with Alzheimer’s,โฃ with an average โขof 10 new diagnoses made each day.
Alzheimer’s disease,theโ most common form of dementia,disproportionately affects older populations,with the risk doubling every five years after the age of 65. While saskatchewan’s rate of diagnosis is consistent with the rest โคof โฃCanada,โ the โฃanticipated surge in casesโข underscores the importance of proactive support systems.
Stacieโข Noble-Wiebe, Firstโ Link Coordinator at the Cypress Resourceโฃ Centre of the Alzheimer Societyโ of Saskatchewan, serves individuals and familiesโข in Swift Current, Shaunavon, Gull Lake, โEastend, and a large portion of southwest Saskatchewan. Noble-Wiebe emphasizes a team-based โคapproach toโ navigating the challenges of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
“It takes โa team to help individuals and families navigate the โฃAlzheimer’s journey,” she stated.
The โAlzheimer Societyโฃ of Saskatchewan offersโฃ a range of free programs and resources, including virtual and โขin-person support groups.โฃ A โSwift Current Care Partner Supportโค group meets on the second Thursday ofโฃ each month โขfrom 1:30-3:30 pm at the Burnham Room, first United Church (223โข 3rd Avenue NE). Upcoming virtual events โinclude “Navigating Home Safety with Dementia” on Septemberโ 24th fromโฃ 7:00-8:30pm,and “virtual Care Essentials” begining October 7th.โฃ A “Virtual Minds in Motion” program isโข scheduled for October 6 – December 8, 2025.
