Ipoh ⁣Housewife Wins US$1.4 Million After Using‌ Spam Call ‍Numbers for Lottery Bet

IPOH, MALAYSIA – A housewife in Ipoh, Perak state, has‍ won RM6,078,449 (approximately US$1.4 million) in⁣ the Da ⁣Ma Cai 1+3D lottery ⁤after using numbers gleaned ⁤from a spam phone call.

The woman, who has⁣ chosen to remain anonymous, reportedly noticed the digits 4526 and 3106 ‍in her phone’s⁣ call log⁢ after ⁣receiving an unsolicited ‌call from an unknown number. On a whim, she placed a RM2 bet on ‍those ⁤numbers ⁢in the September 10th draw.

Her numbers were drawn, resulting in the substantial prize. Da Ma Cai officially confirmed the win on social media.

The ⁣winner ‍has stated she intends to donate a portion of her⁤ winnings to charity.

Statistically, such a win is exceptionally rare. The incident echoes other recent lottery luck stories, including that of Paul ⁤Corcoran of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, who won US$2 million in July after accidentally purchasing two US$1 million-winning tickets. Wayne Murray of New ‌York ‍City also defied the ⁤odds in ‍May 2023, winning US$10 million in a scratch-off game just 16 months⁢ after⁢ winning the same amount, a ⁢feat with odds of one⁢ in‍ 3.5 million -⁢ accomplished twice.

Summary of the Article: mental Health Crisis Following Gen Z Protest

This article details the significant rise in mental health issues, particularly among children and adolescents, following a recent protest in the country led by gen Z against corruption and a social media ban. The protest resulted in at least 74 deaths and over 1,800 injuries, and the traumatic events are having a widespread psychological impact.

Key Points:

* Increased mental health Cases: Hospitals are reporting a significant increase in patients, especially young people, experiencing acute stress reactions, insomnia, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.
* Triggers: Trauma stems from witnessing the violence (thru media or firsthand), losing friends/family in the protest, and fear of future incidents.
* Common Symptoms: Sleep disorders, repetitive recounting of events, fear of leaving home/school, and increased anxiety are prevalent.
* Ancient Precedent: Similar surges in mental health problems were observed after the 2015 Gorkha earthquake and during the COVID-19 pandemic, with increases in anxiety, depression, alcohol use, and suicidal thoughts.
* Expert Recommendations: Experts emphasize the need for accessible counseling services, early detection of mental health issues, life skills training, and public awareness campaigns.
* Government Response: The ministry of Health and population is collaborating with UN agencies and other organizations to implement measures over the next six months, including awareness campaigns on social media (where Gen Z is most active) and training health workers to identify and assess vulnerable populations.

In essence, the article highlights a growing mental health crisis in the wake of a tragic protest and underscores the importance of proactive and accessible mental health support, particularly for young people.

Democrats bash Justice Clarence Thomas but their plan to investigate ethics allegations is unclear

Democrats Criticize Justice Thomas as Ethics Concerns Mount, But Path to Examination Remains Unclear

WASHINGTON ⁢- Democrats are intensifying criticism of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas following reports of undisclosed gifts and travel, but ⁢a clear plan for investigating the allegations remains elusive, highlighting the challenges of holding the high court accountable. The scrutiny comes as ethical questions surrounding the justices continue to grow, prompting calls for stricter oversight.

The latest ⁤wave of criticism centers on‌ reports detailing lavish trips and gifts Justice Thomas ⁣accepted from Republican megadonor Harlan Crow, raising concerns about potential conflicts‌ of interest. While Justice Thomas has defended his actions, stating he was ⁤not required to disclose the gifts⁤ under existing ethics rules, Democrats⁢ argue the situation underscores a need for⁣ a binding ⁤ethics‍ code for the Supreme Court.Justice Thomas, appointed by President George H.W.‌ Bush in 1991, has previously stated it wasn’t Congress’ place to push an ethics code ‌on the high court.

the debate unfolds against ‌a⁣ backdrop of existing ethical concerns surrounding Justice Thomas. Last year, CNN reported on communications between his ⁤wife, Ginni Thomas, a conservative activist, and Trump White House chief ⁢of staff Mark Meadows regarding‍ efforts to ⁢overturn the ‌2020 election, raising questions ⁢about potential conflicts requiring recusal.

Despite the mounting pressure, Republicans have largely resisted calls‌ for legislative action.Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican member of the Judiciary Committee,‍ suggested the accusations were part of a “multi-decade⁤ effort now to target Clarence Thomas by these liberal activist groups.” Other Republicans, like South Dakota Sen. John Thune, the GOP’s Senate Whip, maintain the court has historically “policed itself,” adding that Thomas has been a⁤ “solid justice on the court through the years and has acquitted himself well there.”

senator Lindsey Graham, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, ‌echoed ‍this sentiment, telling CNN, “Let’s see what the court does. I⁣ prefer them to do it⁤ internally.” This stance reflects a broader reluctance among⁢ Republicans to support legislation imposing an ethics code ⁣on the justices, leaving Democrats to grapple with limited options for addressing their concerns.

Permacrisis and Gen Z: Understanding Mental Health Struggles

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor September 16, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Gen Z Faces Mounting Mental Health Challenges Amidst ‘Permacrisis‘

LONDON – A recent YouGov survey reveals a significant rise in mental health difficulties among young people, with nearly two-thirds of 16- to 25-year-olds reporting they have experienced, or are currently experiencing, mental health challenges. Approximately one-third anticipate needing mental health support within the next 12 months.

Experts suggest this surge is linked to a confluence of factors, including constant exposure to global crises – a phenomenon increasingly termed “permacrisis” – and the pervasive influence of social media. The digital landscape presents a relentless stream of often-disturbing content, as exemplified by recent events witnessed by many young people: news of the shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk, followed by graphic imagery circulating on platforms like Instagram, and subsequent online reactions on X, Bluesky, and Reddit. Even seeking respite on platforms like TikTok can expose users to perhaps harmful content, including depictions of violence alongside idealized portrayals of lifestyle and body image.

This generation has grown up immersed in this habitat, spending thier formative years connected to smartphones and social media. Data indicates low levels of physical activity – only one in ten teenagers achieve an hour of daily exercise – coupled with a reliance on dopamine-driven stimulation.

Furthermore, a shift in cultural messaging around mental health, emphasizing the importance of every feeling and potentially blurring the lines between trauma and everyday discomfort, may contribute to increased self-diagnosis and a focus on treatable conditions. the proliferation of online content from non-experts pathologizing normal adolescent behaviors has also been noted.

Analysts argue that the sheer volume of information and stimulation experienced by Gen Z surpasses anything previous generations faced, potentially overwhelming their cognitive capacity. This constant bombardment of conflicting content, they say, is detrimental to developing minds, and the current environment – characterized by digital immersion and limited real-world interaction – may leave young people feeling isolated and unsupported.

train Delays & Reported Explosions Disrupt Rail Traffic in Kyiv Region, Russian⁢ Tactics Analyzed Near Kupyansk

Fastovsky District, Kyiv⁢ region – September 14, 2025 ⁤ – Train number 73, traveling from Kharkov to Przemysl, made an emergency stop in teh ⁢Fastovsky district of the ⁤Kyiv region overnight, resulting in significant delays for‌ passengers. According to Nikolai Kalashnik, head of⁢ the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, the disruption was caused by damage ⁢to railway infrastructure due to an “emergency.”

Passengers were transferred to Kyiv via bus and a ⁢replacement train ⁢following a revised ⁢route. Medical assistance was provided ‌to three women experiencing acute ‍stress reactions, with an emergency medical team accompanying ⁣the train to the capital. Ukrzaliznytsia reports ⁤the train departed on its altered route around 4:00 a.m.and is expected to arrive ⁣at least four hours behind schedule.

Authorities are working to repair the ⁤damage,‌ and long-distance‍ trains are being⁤ rerouted through Mironovka or Korosten.Updated schedules are available on official ⁣Ukrzaliznytsia resources. Sources from Zerkalo⁣ Nedeli report the incident stemmed from the detonation of ammunition during rail transport near the village of Kalinovka. Kalashnik clarified the explosions ‍were unrelated to Russian aerial attacks reported earlier in the evening.

Kupyansk – September 14, 2025 – The ‌Institute‍ for the Study of ⁢War (ISW) has analyzed a recent Russian ⁤attempt to advance near⁣ Kupyansk utilizing a ‍gas pipeline as cover. This marks‍ the third documented instance‍ of this tactic during the ⁤full-scale war, following similar operations in Avdeevka (January 2024) and Sudzha (March 2025).

the ISW notes the 60th Separate Assault Brigade “Veterans” were involved in⁣ the Avdeevka and‍ Sudzha operations. While thier participation in the Kupyansk attempt hasn’t been confirmed, the ISW suggests this could⁣ indicate the russian military‌ command is‍ disseminating successful tactics across ⁣units. Alternatively, the tactic may represent localized adaptation to counter Ukrainian drone activity.

Title: Lawyers Slam Nikos Michaloliakos’ Release Over Favored Treatment

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 14, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

ATHENS – Lawyers⁤ representing victims of the Greek neo-Nazi group‌ Golden Dawn sharply criticized a‍ recent court decision ⁤granting⁣ parole to former party leader ⁢Giorgos Michaloliakos, alleging preferential treatment within the Greek penal⁤ system. The ruling, issued ‍on September 13, 2024, allows Michaloliakos temporary release ⁢from prison, a decision prosecutors are‍ now being urged to challenge.

The controversy underscores ongoing⁢ concerns about the enduring threat of extremist ideologies in Greece, even⁤ as Golden Dawn has been officially outlawed. Michaloliakos, convicted in 2020 as the head of a criminal association, began serving a 13-year sentance for charges including orchestrating attacks⁢ on migrants and political opponents. His release, briefly enacted in May 2024 before being overturned, has ignited accusations of “long-standing favoritism” in ⁤his treatment compared to other inmates, according to his legal adversaries.

prosecutors have the power to appeal the parole decision, perhaps extending Michaloliakos’s incarceration. He has completed approximately half of his original sentence, but further appeals could increase the⁢ total time he serves.‍

the lawyers’ statement warned of “risky conditions” stemming from the⁣ continued existence of Golden Dawn’s ideology under alternative organizational names. They also called for public participation in planned⁢ anti-fascist ⁣demonstrations, signaling a renewed effort to counter extremist movements in Greece.
