Snapchat Introduces Paid storage for Memories After a Decade of Free Unlimited Access
Snapchat has ended its long-standing policy of unlimited free storage for its “Memories” feature, which allows users to save photos and videos directly within the app. After ten years of offering unrestricted storage, snapchat is now implementing storage limits and introducing paid subscription plans.
Users will now receive 5GB of free storage for their Memories. Those exceeding this limit will need to choose from Snapchat’s new paid options: 100GB for Rs. 165 per month, 256GB for Rs. 330 per month, and a 5TB plan available at a higher, unspecified price.
Snapchat is offering a grace period to existing users with considerable Memories collections. They will have 12 months of continued access to their content before any excess data may be deleted if a paid plan isn’t purchased.
The company acknowledged the transition from free to paid storage may be unwelcome, but maintains that the Memories feature offers significant value. Snapchat also advises users who prefer not to pay for storage to download their Memories to their devices or transfer them to alternative cloud storage services like Google Drive and iCloud.
