On the night from Sunday to Monday, only 4 meetings took place in the overseas NHL. Slovak fans could look forward to being represented in the form of Martin Fehérváry and Martin Pospíšil, who introduced themselves in European times. On the contrary, from the position of a healthy substitute, Adam Ružička watched the Flames performance only from the stands.

On the night from Sunday to Monday, 8 games were played in the Canadian-American farm AHL. They all started on Sunday evening our time, but some did not finish until after midnight. In two of them, two Slovak hockey players were also introduced, in both cases wingers. The second duel after returning from the WC was played by the former captain of the junior national team, he also played the first ever Slovak in the Seattle Kraken organization.

The Washington Capitals welcomed an opponent from Los Angeles to their home Capital One Arena, who arrived in the capital of the United States of America with a streak of 4 losses. It was not possible to change even in the 5th game and the Capitals enjoyed a 4-3 victory. In the home team, the Slovakian full back started in the first defensive pair Martin Fehérváry, who went through the difficult end of II. thirds. During the last minute, he was attacked from behind by forward Alex Laferrier and had great difficulty getting up from the ice. However, the native of Bratislava was able to return to the meeting at the beginning of the last third and finally became the 2nd busiest player of his team with an ice time of 21 minutes and 28 seconds. Only John Carlson, the scorer of the winning goal, who decided the Capitals’ triumph with only 53 seconds before the end of the final period, had a longer stay. The Slovak defender was able to block a shot in the match and to add 4 distributed points. At the same time, he also sent a shooting attempt at goalkeeper Cam Talbot.

The “Flames” from Calgary played their second game in two days when they faced the local Blackhawks at the United Center. Chicago had to count on the losses from the previous meeting, when the pair of Connor Bedard and Nick Foligno did not finish the match against the New Jersey Devils. The home team managed to cope even without their best player and defeated the Flames with a score of 4:3. Only 1 out of 2 Slovaks appeared in the guest jersey, and that’s it Martin Pospíšil, who traditionally started in the 2nd formation alongside Nazem Kadri and Connor Zary. In the second game in a row, the Slovak striker was able to distinguish himself with an assist, when he first helped to win the puck during the forecheck during the equalizer and then placed a shot from Noah Hanifin into the goal of Nazem Kadri. For Martin Pospíšil, it was the 9th Canadian point in 28 games. Adam Ružička he did not participate in the meeting due to a healthy substitute.

European Hockey Update: Historic Night for Slovak Players in the NHL and AHL

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 7, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A quartet of Slovak hockey players took part in the night NHL meetings. Adam Ružička has a historic night behind him, his teammate Martin Pospíšil presented himself for a change with a wonderful goal pass. Šimon Nemec set a new personal record.

In the night games of the overseas AHL, there was also a Slovak track from Saturday to Sunday, performed by 6 Slovak hockey players. Attacker Miloš Kelemen rejoiced at the accurate strike together with defender Patrik Koch, who assisted in the 4:0 victory. Canadian points were also scored by attackers Adam Sýkora and Marián Studenič, while Maxim Čajkovič and Samuel Kňažko did not fit into their team’s lineup.

The so-called the European game of the week in the NHL had a special flavor for Adam Ružička. Fans had the opportunity to watch in the lucrative evening time from 7:00 p.m. how the Slovakian striker set a new club record for the number of matches completed by a Slovak in the Canadian organization with 108 starts in the Calgary Flames jersey. He beat Ronald Petrovicky by 1 match. In the duel on the ice of the Philadelphia Flyers, Adam Ružička did not make a significant impact. He played almost 3 minutes in the duel in power plays, but he did not send even 1 shot on goal and currently he is waiting for another point in 4 matches. The aforementioned Ronald Petrovický should also be threatened in the club statistics in the future Martin Pospíšil, who started the 27th meeting in the “flames” jersey and scored the 8th Canadian point in it. The Slovak laid the foundation for the opening goal of the game when he skated to the abandoned puck near the left guard and in a fraction of a second before being hit by Scott Laughton, he was able to push Jonathan Huberdeau into a solo escape with a great pass. Before that, teammate Nazem Kadri was still slightly leaking the puck. The star player took advantage of the excellent work of the Slovak striker and scored. Martin Pospíšil was waiting for a point in 6 meetings, but his team was not happy about the point gain. Philadelphia won 3-2.

The unpredictability of hockey was experienced firsthand by the Montreal Canadiens hockey players, who led the New York Rangers 3-0 in the middle of the meeting, but the duel finally came down to separate raids. The team from Manhattan was able to equalize and the fight was finally decided by Cole Caufield’s raids. He started with the author of the winning goal Juraj Slafkovský again in the first attacking formation with center Nick Suzuki. The Slovak did not win points, but he again showed several interesting moments in the match. Perhaps the most interesting was his soulful forechecking at the end of overtime, in which he won the puck and at the same time a power play. 12 seconds before the end of overtime, K’Andre Miller pulled the handbrake on the nascent chance and defended the Slovakian in an illegal manner. In the end, the Habs were happy with a two-point win, also thanks to the great performance of goalkeeper Sam Montembeault, who successfully covered 45 opponent shots and neutralized all 3 separate raids by Rangers stars Panarin, Zibanejad and Lafrenier.

After a month, the Hughes brothers repeated the joint measurement of forces. However, this time the duel between the Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils took place in the USA, and Devils forward Jack was missing due to an upper body injury. The captain of the Canadian team, Quinn Hughes, returned the loan to the brothers Jack and Luke. New Jersey won 6:5 in Vancouver a month ago, this time the Canucks succeeded on the ice of the Devils 6:4. Simon Nemec in the fight, he did not follow up on the previous match against Chicago, in which he recorded a 1+1 record and was silent on points. In the match, the Devils lost the German’s partner from the defensive pair, Jonas Siegenthaler, who broke his leg and will be out of the game for a long time. The burden of responsibility in the fight was taken over by the Slovak rookie, who spent 23 minutes and 32 seconds on the ice, setting a new personal record in the NHL. He was on the ice with 2 goals conceded and 2 goals scored.

Šimon Nemec’s statistics:
shots outside the goal: 1
blocked shots: 4
lost pucks: 1
ice time: 28 substitutions / 23:32 minutes (of which 1:18 minutes in power-ups; 1:06 minutes in weakenings)

The injury in the upper part did not allow him to start the game again to Erik Černák. The Slovak quarterback of the Tampa Bay Lightning missed the third duel of the Florida team and thus has not yet played in the new calendar year. The Florida team was not enough against the opponent from Boston and lost heavily 3:7.

Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský scored one assist in the New Year’s Eve program of the overseas NHL, but his Montreal team lost 3:4 on the Tampa Bay ice. His compatriot Erik Černák did not finish the duel in the home jersey after a hard hit by Josh Anderson at the beginning of the second period. Calgary, in the lineup with Adam Ružiček and Martin Pospíšil, defeated Philadelphia 4:3.

On the night from Sunday to Monday, 9 meetings took place in the Canadian-American NHL, 2 of them started on Sunday our time. There were 4 Slovak hockey players in action, but they only appeared in two duels. The fight between the experienced defender and the draft unit resulted in an unpleasant injury without the length of the absence being specified in more detail yet, the pair of attackers managed to win.

Montreal lost a two-goal lead in the meeting with Tampa, conceding four times in a row. In the 58th minute, Nick Suzuki gave hope to the visitors, who after Slafkovský’s run in front of the goal got to the puck and reduced the score to 3:4 from an angle, but the Canadiens were unable to equalize. Slafkovský scored his thirteenth point of the season (4+9), played 20:42 minutes and had one shot.

Černak spent only 6:39 minutes on the ice with a minus point, as in the 25th minute he was left behind his own goal after being hit by Anderson. After reviewing the video, the referees gave him a two-minute penalty and five minutes for the subsequent fight with Luke Glendening, who immediately went to “revenge” Černák.

The star of the home team was Nikita Kučerov with a goal and an assist, who was the first in the season to reach the 60-point mark. Montreal scored a curious goal across the entire ice rink to make it 2:0 – after an intervention by the visiting goalkeeper Sam Montembeault, the Tampa players expected the game to be interrupted, but the referee’s whistle did not come and Jonathan Kovacevic, after a quick play, scored exactly from his own third into the opponent’s abandoned goal, from which Jonas Johansson he skated for a while.

On the night from Thursday to Friday, 12 meetings took place in the overseas NHL. The Slovak defender performed a high-quality defensive performance and distinguished himself in the meeting with a “goalkeeping” save, when he was able to prevent a goal after a shot by Jack Eichel. Prudential Center witnessed an interesting development of the match, when the visitors took the lead 2:0 after the first minutes. The home team was able to reverse the unfavorable development of the meeting and turn it to 3:2, but in the decisive last third, their opponent was more dominant. New Jersey was not enough for Edmonton in the ratio of 3:6. The former Nitra defenseman had a hand in Jonas Siegenthaler’s equalizer as he recorded his 4th Canadian NHL point with an assist. In the pro league, he also served a minor penalty for possession during the first period, which ultimately remained unpunished. Šimon Nemec was again one of the busiest players of his team, this time with a time of 20 minutes and 38 seconds.
