Nottingham Mum Launches Legal โAction after Being Discharged From A&E Twice With Undiagnosed Spinal Condition
A Nottingham mother is pursuing legal actionโ against Sherwood Forest hospitals after being sent home from A&E twice despite presentingโ with “red flag” symptoms of a rare spinal condition. Hayley Combe, now lives with constant pain and important limitations followingโ decompression surgery to address the condition, which impacted her โindependenceโฃ and ability to โขparticipate in everyday activities.
Combe’s โcondition prevents her from joining in family โactivities like visiting National trust properties or going on walks. “I can’t thank enough the doctors who performed my decompression surgery but โฃI โnowโ live withโ constant pain. I’ve had to adapt to new limitations, both physically andโค emotionally,” she said. “My independence has been affected and I relyโค on aids and support to manage daily life. Even things many people take for granted such as playing with the kids andโ going โคout to work are a challenge.”
Sheโข is seeking answers regarding potentialโ delays in diagnosis. “I know โI can’t change what’s happened but the โคleast I feel Iโ deserve is answers. I wont to know โwhetherโฃ more could have done to diagnose myโค condition sooner, and โขif so, would an earlier diagnosis haveโค prevented the โคissues I now have to live with?”
Julianne Moore, a medical โฃnegligence lawyerโข atโ Irwin โMitchell representing โMs. Combe, stated, “What Hayley โhas gone through has not only been incredibly traumatic for her but also her family.” mooreโ highlighted the concerning nature of Combe’s โฃtwice-presentedโค “red flag symptoms” to hospital staff.
Dr.โ Simon Roe,chief medical officer at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, acknowledged the case. “We are sorry to hear ofโ Hayley’sโฃ experiencesโข at Sherwood Forest โHospitals. As legal action is underway, we are โคcurrently unable to comment on the specific details of this case. However,โข we work hard toโข maintain high standards and provide the best possible care for all our โฃpatients andโ are committed โto continuously improving the โquality and safety โคof โขthe careโ that we provide. we value all opportunitiesโ to learn โfrom examples where โwe have not delivered care to the high standards that we set ourselves.”
