DeLand, FL – A man โคposing as a registered โคnurse was arrested Monday โafter arriving for โa โคjob interview โฃat Ridgecrest Health and Rehab Center in deland, the Volusia County SheriffS Office โคannounced. โJoseph Kinney, 38, is accused of fraudulently applying โคfor nursing positions using another individual’s credentials.Theโค investigation began in August โคwhen aโข hiring managerโ at Ridgecrest reportedโค suspicious activity. Authorities later learned the managerโฃ had previously encountered โขKinney in October 2024โข at Indigo Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Daytona Beach,where he โpresented inconsistent documentation and appeared nervous. Deputies discovered Kinney was impersonatingโ aโฃ licensed nurseโ he resided with in Lake Mary.
Kinney’s history includes prior nursing licenses in Alabama, California, and Florida, along with disciplinary actions for โคoffenses includingโ drug diversion,โค drivingโ under โฃthe influence, andโ providing โฃfalseโ facts. Investigators believe Kinneyโ submitted applications-using theโ fraudulent ID and license-for 10 to 15 nursing jobs, securing employment โat two facilitiesโข in Seminole โฃand Orange counties,โข though he โleft both positions within a week.
Volusia County Sheriff’s โฃOffice released body camera footage of Kinney’s arrest. he is currently held โat the Volusia County Jail onโ a $20,000 bond and facesโ two felony counts of practicing health care withoutโ a license,a violation ofโข Florida law. Practicing or offering to practiceโฃ a โhealthcare profession without a โvalid license is a criminalโข offense in the state.
