Tennis players from Russia and Belarus approved for participation in the Wimbledon tournament

The organizers of the Grass Major decided to remove the disqualification from the players representing Russia and Belarus. They will be able to play at the Grand Slam tournament in a neutral status.

“We continue to fully condemn Russia’s illegal invasion, and our sincere support remains with the people of Ukraine. This decision was extremely difficult, not taken lightly or without special attention to those who will be affected,” said the head of the organization, Ian Hewitt.

Belarusian and Russian tennis players will be able to play at Wimbledon 2023 on condition that the aggressor country and its ally refuse state funding. They will also be prohibited from expressing support for the war. Last year, the organizers banned the participation of the Russian Federation and Belarus, so that the Russian regime “did not derive any benefit” from the competition.

The oldest Grand Slam tournament announced the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians from participation in April last year. In response, the ATP and WTA stripped the competition of ranking points in 2022 and also fined Wimbledon $1 million each. Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) and Serb Novak Djokovic became the winners of the tournament in the women’s and men’s categories.

“Russian dissatisfaction with the improved quality of Chinese cars post-sanctions reported by Reuters”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 25, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Chinese brands such as Haval, Chery and Geely now account for about 40% of new car sales in Russia. They came to replace Renault, Nissan and Mercedes that left the Russian Federation.

The Russians say the quality of some Chinese cars is lower than Western competitors, and industry experts said Chinese manufacturers need to bolster their reputation even as their market share skyrockets.

Most Western automakers, which have been battling with domestic automakers for market share since they started building plants in Russia in the early 2000s, went out of business last spring. While most foreign firms have left Russia or are in the process of leaving, stockpiles and “parallel imports” mean some companies’ vehicles remain on sale.

Local experts point out that while Chinese cars are increasingly filling the niche, the lack of reputation remains a problem. The lower standard of living and the desire for western-made cars made people cut their spending and buy more used cars.

The EU will change the approach to sanctions against Russia

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 1, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“The EU has rolled out 10 far-reaching and unprecedented sanctions packages against Russia with incredible efficiency,” O’Sullivan said. But now, he says, “we need to focus on implementing and combating the bypass.”

O’Sullivan noted that in some respects a restructuring is needed. “My role now is to ensure their effective implementation, and not bypass through third countries,” he added.

O’Sullivan said he had already contacted countries that Russia could use to circumvent sanctions. “Cooperation and engagement in dialogue with third countries that can be used as a bypass platform is vital. I have already started my work by visiting the United Arab Emirates with my US and UK counterparts. Further visits are planned.”

As the newspaper notes, the sanctions had less impact than the leaders of the bloc had hoped. In particular, the value of Russian exports to the EU increased in 2022 compared to the previous year, mainly due to higher energy and raw material prices.

In addition, despite wide-ranging sanctions on aircraft spare parts, Russian carrier Aeroflot is still flying – its aircraft are being repaired and serviced in Turkey.

The Russian defense industry has replaced sanctioned parts with dual-use items and repurposed consumer goods. On the territory of Russia, they remove microchips from toasters to use them for their guided missiles.

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 18, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

As specified in department, this document replaces the license 6B published in July, 2022. The text of the new document has a number of differences compared to the previous version.

In particular, it states that transactions related to the Russian Federation related to the production, sale, transportation or provision of agricultural goods, agricultural equipment, medicine, medical equipment, its spare parts and components or software updates for it, prevention of distribution, diagnosis or treatment are allowed. COVID-19, including research or clinical trials related to COVID-19, or clinical trials and other medical research activities.

In the preliminary version of the license, the “provision” of agricultural products was not mentioned. It was only about its production, sale or transportation. In addition, license 6B stated that the authorization was not for any clinical trials, but only for “long-term” trials.

The US Treasury does not specify how long the 6C license will be valid, the validity period of the previous version was also not indicated.
