When there are galleys, nothing happens. Jirka Horáček grows up on a housing estate in Pilsen with her father. When he is not studying, he spends time with a bunch of friends. The story is connected with disco songs.
The discotheque is Jirk’s favorite place
When Jirka’s son comes from the “party”, actually from the disco, he straightens the sheets with his dad. He has to work on it until eventually the sheet rips. When Jirka goes to practical training with his classmates and the master, he stops at a flower shop and takes a photo of a girl from a disco there. Another girl, Jitka, brings home his ID card and the father scolds him for not even thanking her properly and not inviting her somewhere. In the end, this girl proposes a date by herself and she and his friend agree on a meeting.

Who comes to mind when you hear Hrušínský? The history of the Hrušín family begins with the work of Josef Kajetán Tyl in the middle of the 19th century. In the 20th century…
But Jirka spots a girl from the disco and joins her group. The boys make fun of each other and do all sorts of pranks. But during one of them, this hero Jirka runs across the square naked and a group of boys takes his clothes away for good. The girl and Jirka are taken by public security to the police station and they take him to his father.
Horáček’s son visits a luxury restaurant with his group, a girl from the disco and her friends. They eat spaghetti and all kinds of food. Before bringing the bill, son Horáček and the girl leave the disco and the bill remains with the others. The amount is really high.
The master calls Father Horáček
The master calls father Horáček to come for his son. Jirka arrives at the practical training in a drunken state. “Well, my friend, from now on you will have a war,” says the father. And indeed, Voráček’s son does laundry at home, cleans shoes and takes on other household chores.
But then Jirka goes out and Cáfa wants money back from him for spending in a restaurant of a higher price category. The girl from the disco stopped being interested in Jirka. Son Horáček goes to the hairdresser and gets a haircut because he lost a bet with a friend. But he would not insist on keeping the bet. Coincidentally, Jitka is cutting him, who can cry her eyes out.
The father is furious when he learns that Jirka had his hair cut. Jirka comes to work for him. But even that does not help the understanding of the father to the son. The father-son relationship is complicated, and the fact that their mother has left makes it even more complicated.
Jirka leaves a message for his father
Jirka leaves a message to her father that it is no longer worth it between them. So the father sets out to find his son, to a discotheque. Finally, she finds him at the station with Jitka, waiting in the hall. When Jirka notices him, she starts running. His father does not catch up with him and Jirka ends up leaving by means of transport. But then he returns again, first to his friend, where he eats, and then “breaks in” through the window into the apartment. There he eats, bathes and sleeps.
When he sees his father coming, he takes his clothes in the morning and gets dressed on the roof of the block of flats. When the father leaves, he “breaks” into their apartment again. They eat and sleep there. One day he sleeps outside, but it starts to rain a lot. They meet in the morning, and even though the father initially reaches out to slap him, Jirka eventually receives a friendly gesture from his father, and Jirka and his father reconcile.

Knoflíkáři is a film that was the first major effort after the revolution in 1989, and according to critics, it was also very successful. Black humor and sarcasm combined with satire is his own, and thus he managed to win a lot of viewers.
Brief plot
For those who have never heard of the Button Makers, here is some information that everyone should know. It is a film composed of several short stories. Different times, different places, but still connected. Even if the result is a color film, enthusiasts will also enjoy a black-and-white short story that gives the story a chilling undertone.

QUIZ: Who doesn’t know the cult movie Pelíšky, it’s as if they weren’t even Czech
It is no exaggeration to say that Pelíšky is a cult Czech film. Perhaps they are reenacted every year on Christmas Day. Many of us know them practically…
The film was shot in 1997. As the end of the millennium was approaching, which many people were worried about, the film focuses on looking back at how the world has changed, what people have given and taken from the world. It also focuses on individual characters in short stories that depict images of human society, from the mundane to the extreme.
To illustrate, in one short story people complain about the weather and the woes associated with it, such as not being able to light tobacco. While the three people are arguing about the war and the pointless rain, they have no idea that above their heads the American pilots are arguing about the “fucking cougar” that they are tasked with releasing somewhere. Kokura, where the tobacco is cloudy and damp, has no idea that she has narrowly escaped disaster. Since then it has been called “Happiness as in Kokura”.
Willing taxi driver and chattering teeth
In addition to history, the plot also looks at the then-current streets of Prague. A taxi driver meets customers who would like to experience sex while driving. The taxi driver agrees, but the man of the couple has erectile problems, which the woman brilliantly misleads into the fact that the man is a vegetarian. “You don’t eat meat, so you’re kind of anemic.”
The taxi driver’s next customer is a suspicious husband who goes to pick up his wife. During the drive, the story of the man behind the wheel and his acquaintance with the woman is revealed. A jealous husband is happy that it wasn’t his wife after a failed event where he caught two strangers. But the viewer knows more than both gentlemen and is forced to empathize with them. See for yourself.
Pulling buttons off the couch is good, ripping with a prosthesis is better, ripping buttons with a prosthesis held in your ass? That’s for connoisseurs. I believe that even with just one sentence, this short story attracted a lot of attention.
The Buttons is not a classic comedy. It is bitter humor with an emphasis on reflection. But it cannot be denied that at more than one moment the viewer will laugh heartily. “She’s dead, so leave her!”, that’s a legendary saying that meets one person from two different points of view. One moment can change a person’s beliefs and his life.
It would be a shame to reveal more, after all the film is shot in such a way that nothing can describe what it shows. The rating on ČSFD (Czechoslovak Film Database) is above average, 80%.
Quiz: A friend in the rain. Lukáš Vaculík and Sagvan Tofi

A friend in the rain is now a legendary film that still entertains today. Even if it can’t compete with crime comedies from American production, it still manages to entertain us despite the absence of expensive effects.
Who doesn’t know the movie Rain Buddies, which was filmed in 1988? After the films Vítr v kapse (1982), Láska z pasáže (1984) and Disco story (1987), this is another film by the famous director, but it is somewhat different from the others. What? It does not describe the great love between a man and a woman, but the friendship of two men who are willing to do almost anything for each other. Even if it means getting involved with dangerous people or the law.

A friend in the rain: An explosion like from Hollywood, a clueless dog and a drunkard in one of the main roles
Director Jaroslav Soukup was a pioneer in shooting action films that were intended for “young adults”. He wrote roles directly on the body of certain actors, and…
The story begins with a young waiter, represented by Sagvan Tofi, being tasked with taking a certain amount (revenue) to the bank. Seeing no problem in this, he complies with his employer. But he is ambushed on the way and the entire amount is stolen from him. Since he is on probation, he is afraid to report the whole thing to the police. It is clear to him that they would suspect him of lying. And so he decides to act as if nothing happened.
At this moment, he asks for help from his best friend, who is represented by Lukáš Vaculík. He does not hesitate and borrows that amount from a very dangerous person – Mr. Adamec. But there is one catch: the amount is quite high and the friends only get a short time to get the money back. In addition, he must add 20% as interest to the amount lent. And so begins the fundraising and the race against time.
Unfortunately, the friends do not manage to get the money or negotiate a longer repayment period from Adamek. As a warning that Adamec is not a good uncle, Lukáš Vaculík gets a nice pick-me-up from his cronies. Now both friends know they are in big trouble. So he has to find a way out of it. And the opportunity will present itself soon.
Sagvan Tofi learns from a slip of a receipt for 125,000 crowns sent to a construction company that head waiter Kadlec and his son-in-law, garage foreman Bureš, are behind the robbery. They build a villa together and make extra money through illegal activities. Sagvan demands money from Kadlec for his silence (he calls him on the phone to remain anonymous). At first he agrees, but then he tricks both friends. So the friends have to come up with a new plan.

This time, Sagvan Tofi will show photos of antique furniture for sale. Together with his girlfriend Magda, he gets art historian Syřiště, who has a lot of such furniture, into his apartment. Kadlec feels that he could make money from this situation, so he offers to buy the furniture himself. He is ready to make a deposit of 70,000 crowns, but only after he sees the furniture with his own eyes. Together with their familiar friends, they lure the art historian out of the apartment and show the furniture to Kadlec. But the obtained money explodes in the car in which the friends were taking it to Adamc.
That’s why the friends have to raise money again. They kidnap Adamc’s dog, who pays a ransom for it. They get revenge on him by having him beaten up as a supposed pervert. They take revenge on Kadlec by bringing Magda’s parents’ car to him. He will buy it at a bargain price. But the car is reported stolen. Public safety finds them at a half-dismantled car. Both are arrested and the friends watch with satisfaction from a distance.
As you can see, no situation is precarious when you have a friend who is ready to give you a helping hand. The fact that a sequel was filmed also testifies to how popular the film was and still is today. A friend in the rain II – A story from Brooklyn is its free sequel. It featured one of the most beautiful Czech women: Simona Krainová. Do you remember the problems the friends have in this episode?

The film Pupendo kindly takes us to recent history, to the times of socialism, when many of us had a hard time breathing. Although Pupendo takes place in this difficult time, it caresses the soul of the faithful viewer with gentle humor.
The film, inspired by Petr Šabach’s book and portrayed by the author duo Jan Hřebejk and Petr Jarchovský, is a typical period bitter comedy. Performed by our leading film actors, such as the brilliant Bolek Polívka, Eva Holubová, Jaroslav Dušek, Vilma Cibulková or Pavel Liška, this is a famous spectacle. The plot takes place before 1984, when the main character Bedřich Mára (Bolek Polívka) has to give up his teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts. And that for political reasons, as it was so-called “inconvenient” for the regime. The academic sculptor thus loses lucrative job offers day by day and is suddenly relegated to the fringes of society at the time. His meaning in life thus becomes only his family, and with humor he tries to “survive” and to swim a little against the current of the regime.

In spite of fate, resourceful Mára tries to navigate life with his own lightness and humor. As a result of various vicissitudes and frauds, the officials are fired and the insurance report is suddenly handled by the tight-lipped commission insurance agent Gabalová. Other grotesque situations follow, which are often sad and typical of their time.

Game speakers, game wires, game cassettes.
In addition to Mára’s family, i.e. his wife and two adolescent sons, other characters intervene in the plot and supplement the storyline with difficult stories of their time.
Where did the practice called “pupendo” come from
The pupendo itself, which bears the name of the film, is a controversial pastime that originated as a military ritual. Through this practice, newcomers were initiated into a new party. Stamping the coin (by pressure) proved that the test had passed. A slight pinch and a red spot on the navel was the “reward” for this ceremony.
“Immortal” announcements that are easy to entertain and definitely not boring
- For today: “Alisha, what’s for lunch?”
Marova: “Bread.”
For today: “Alice, bread? It’s Saturday!”
Marova: “Come on, put something on it.” - Vlaďa Ptáčník: „Very nice beautiful, fakt.”
