The Arizona Coyotes placed forward Alex Galchenyuk on the unconditional waiver list with the goal of terminating his contract.

The move comes just 12 days after signing a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $225,000 at the minor league level. The club wrote in the announcement that it will not comment further on this move.

PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan reports that the NHL is investigating the matter. ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski claims the Coyotes made the move after learning of an “off-ice matter” they were unaware of at the time of the signing.

Galchenyuk will become an unrestricted free agent after being on the waiver list.

The 29-year-old American played 11 games for the Avalanche last season without earning a point. He played the next 42 games for the Eagles in the AHL. In them he collected 42 points (16+26). In the past, he also played for the Canadiens, Coyotes, Penguins, Wild, Senators and Maple Leafs.

NHL Offseason: Flyers’ Three-Team Trade Ignites Busy Summer, Dubois Wants Out, DeBrincat’s List, and More

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com June 8, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The NHL is gearing up for a busy few weeks, with trade rumors and negotiations swirling across the league. The recent three-team trade between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Seattle Kraken, and Philadelphia Flyers has ignited the speculation, with many teams looking to make moves to improve their rosters.

Danny Briere, the recently appointed Flyers GM, has already made significant moves to rebuild the team, and rumors suggest he is open to considering almost anything to advance the program long-term. Reports indicate that the Flyers would listen to offers on Travis Konecny, who has two more years left on his deal, and while there have been no serious offers yet, there is confidence that the Flyers will receive at least one or two this summer.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Kings cleared significant cap space as part of the three-team trade and immediately re-engaged with defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov on an extension, signing a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $5.875 million. Gavrikov’s agent, Dan Milstein, was adamant about not exceeding a two-year term, betting that the salary cap will start going back up in 12 months, and Gavrikov will be better positioned to bring himself back to free agency with a better value position in two years.

Pierre-Luc Dubois, the Jets’ restricted free agent, informed the team last year that he wasn’t inclined to sign long-term, and now his camp has let the team know that it’s best to move him on this summer rather than do a one-year deal. Veteran agent Pat Brisson hopes to work with the Jets to facilitate a trade that works for everyone but knows that they’re not interested in trading Dubois at a discount, and teams will need to step up to get the deal done. The Habs remain interested, among other teams.

Alex DeBrincat’s camp has given Senators GM Pierre Dorion a shortlist of preferred destinations in case Ottawa decides to go the trade route with the pending RFA winger. The prolonged process in the sale of the Senators has impacted DeBrincat’s situation, as there are uncertainties about the team’s future, and it’s weighing on his camp. The most prudent thing for the Senators to do is to trade him this summer.

The Devils have made an offer to pending RFA winger Jesper Bratt for the max term of eight years, but it remains unclear if the Bratt camp wants to go that long on the contract or will push for a shorter-term deal. Negotiations with Timo Meier are next on the team’s agenda.

In all, the NHL offseason promises to be an exciting time for fans, with teams willing to make significant moves to reshape their rosters and boost their chances of success in the upcoming season. With plenty of talented players available on the trade market and in free agency, teams will need to be savvy in their negotiations to secure the best deals and build a roster that can compete at the highest level.

Carson Briere, Offspring of Quebecois NHL Icon, Nabbed Pushing Wheelchair down Staircase | Globalnews.ca

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 16, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Carson Briere, the son of a former NHL star, has made headlines after being caught on video shoving a wheelchair-bound man down a flight of stairs. The incident, which was captured on surveillance footage, has sparked outrage and calls for justice. In this article, we delve into the details surrounding the incident and explore the potential consequences for the young Briere.

Carson Briere, the son of former NHL player Daniel Briere, has been caught on a surveillance camera pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down the stairs at a bar in Erie, Pennsylvania. Although the extent of the damage to the wheelchair is unclear, Briere has since been temporarily suspended from his university’s NCAA hockey team, alongside two other identified athletes from Mercyhurst University, due to “considerable outcry” condemning his actions. Mercyhurst University condemned Briere’s actions, stating that they fell short of respecting “the inherent dignity of each person”, and showed “solidarity with the victim and all persons with disabilities who rightfully find actions like this to be deeply offensive.” Carson’s father, Daniel, apologised on behalf of his son, stating that the actions were “inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect”. In 2019, Carson was dismissed from Arizona State’s hockey club for violating team rules. The person whose wheelchair was damaged in the incident has subsequently come forward, after a GoFundMe page was created on her behalf to pay for a wheelchair replacement or repair.

In conclusion, the actions of Carson Briere, son of former NHL star Danny Briere, have raised serious concerns and outrage amongst the public. His decision to shove a disabled individual down stairs is reprehensible and cannot be excused under any circumstances. It is important to remember that actions have consequences, and it is our responsibility to hold individuals accountable for their actions. As the investigation into this incident continues, it is our hope that justice is served, and that those affected receive the support and resources they deserve. It is also our hope that this serves as a reminder that we must all strive to be compassionate and respectful towards one another, regardless of our differences.

Tomáš Tatar will be the “X-factor” for New Jersey in the playoffs

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 26, 2023

The New Jersey Devils will return to the playoffs this season. It’s not official yet, but few doubt that it won’t be like that. And one of the valuable players for the young team in this part of the year will be a veteran Tomas Tatar.

The Slovak attacker has experience from 40 games of fighting for the Stanley Cup, which is not the only reason why he could be a difference maker for New Jersey in the playoffs. As Dan Rice of Puck and Pitchforks points out, opponents will focus on neutralizing top players like Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. This means that the other players will have to step up, including the player with number 90.

“Besides the aforementioned trio and defender Dougie Hamilton, the team’s other most productive players this season are Dawson Mercer and Tomáš Tatar. Both have had different moments this season, whether it was the winning goal, the equalizer or the goal or pass that started the turnaround.” Rice noted.

“At some point in April, they’re going to have to make big plays in close games that could swing the series in the Devils’ favor. If, and that’s a big if, the Devils could survive the first round, the sky would be the limit. I truly believe that. The first round is always the most intense, and this young group could have even more confidence if they find a way to win the organization’s first series in nearly a decade.”

Rice points to how the team has bonded this season. He does not know for sure if the club will make any acquisitions before the transfer deadline, but he is confident that Mercer and Tatar will not be replaced.

“Mercer and Tatar will be here at the end of April and will be the X-factor that will have a big impact on whether the Devils advance past the opening round of the playoffs.” he added.
