The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the 27 Dutch people in Gaza and their immediate family members about the possible border opening between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

“There are reports that injured people and/or foreigners could possibly leave Gaza,” the ministry writes on and assist.”

For security reasons, not all details are made public. It is not known whether the Dutch can actually leave the Gaza Strip.

Egypt announced on Tuesday that the border crossing will open on Wednesday to transport dozens of injured Palestinians. They will receive medical help in Egypt. More than two hundred trucks with humanitarian aid have arrived through that passage in recent days.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reports that it is in close contact with international partners about the border opening.

The border crossing at Rafah will open on Wednesday for the transport of injured Palestinians, Egyptian media report to the news agency AFP. Sick residents can cross the border to be treated in Egypt.

At the border, it will be determined who is eligible for medical care in Egyptian hospitals.

Security is being stepped up at the Egyptian border, reports say The Times of Israel. Images show dozens of tanks gathered at Rafah.

Meanwhile, trucks carrying emergency aid are crossing from Egypt to the Gaza Strip. In the past 24 hours, 66 trucks have entered the Palestinian territory, the White House reports.

Israel fears that emergency aid will end up in the hands of Hamas

The United States has been insisting on opening the border crossing for some time. The Americans want fellow countrymen and other foreigners to be able to leave the Gaza Strip. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “significant progress has been made in recent hours”.

According to the US, there are no signs that emergency aid has ended up in the hands of Hamas. Israel has repeatedly expressed concerns about the possibility of Hamas benefiting from the aid.

The border post had already been open for trucks carrying humanitarian aid in recent days. More than two hundred trucks with water, food and medical supplies have crossed the border.

A Dutch woman died in the Gaza Strip on Saturday evening. Outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanke Bruins Slot announced this on Sunday.

“Very sad to hear that a 33-year-old Dutch woman died in Gaza,” Bruins Slot wrote. X. “My thoughts are with her family and other loved ones at this terrible time.”

“She was one of 22 people on the ground with whom the State Department is in contact for consular support. We continue to work in every possible way to facilitate a safe departure from Gaza.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs NU.nl that it cannot make any statements about the precise cause of death of the woman “because we currently have no confirmed or verifiable information about this.”

Eighteen-year-old Dutchman still in the hands of Hamas

This week it was announced that a Dutchman is being held hostage in Gaza. This concerns eighteen-year-old Ofir Engel, who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7. He was still seventeen at the time and did not have Dutch nationality. After his kidnapping, Engel urgently obtained a Dutch passport.

It is unclear where exactly Engel is being held and how he is doing. He was able to get a Dutch passport because his grandfather has Dutch nationality. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that English-Dutch nationality will lead to a greater chance of release.

Egypt opens the Rafah border crossing for humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip as road is bombed – US and Egypt agreement reached

Egypt opens the Rafah border crossing for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Yet aid cannot easily reach civilians in the Gaza Strip because the road leading there has been bombed.

The United States and Egypt reached an agreement late on Wednesday, both countries said.

Biden says that he has agreed with Al Sisi to initially allow “a maximum of twenty trucks through”. But before the trucks can pass through, the road must first be repaired, Biden said.

The road that runs through the border crossing has been bombed several times by the Israeli air force in recent days. “So it may be that nothing is likely to continue until Friday,” Biden says.

Al Sisi also said in a statement that he and Biden have reached an agreement to bring aid to the Gaza Strip “in a sustainable way”.

Rafah is the only border crossing into the Gaza Strip not controlled by Israel. The border crossing is currently closed.

The American president will give a speech from Washington on Thursday about the wars in Israel and Ukraine. Biden also visited Israel on Wednesday.

Israel allows deliveries of water, food and medicine

Israel previously said it would allow the delivery of food, water and medicine to the Gaza Strip from Egypt. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reported this on Wednesday after Biden announced an agreement on this.

“In light of President Biden’s request, Israel will not block the delivery of humanitarian supplies through Egypt,” the office said in a statement. It also states that Israel will allow aid to civilians “as long as these goods do not reach Hamas.”

As a result of the war between Hamas and Israel, the people of the Gaza Strip are struggling with an ever-increasing humanitarian disaster.

Ceasefire Agreement Between United States, Israel, and Egypt in Gaza Strip: Updates and Uncertainties

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 16, 2023

Oct 16, 2023 at 8:20 AM Update: an hour ago

The United States, Israel and Egypt are said to have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the south of the Gaza Strip. This is what Egyptian sources told the news agency Reuters. The truce should coincide with the reopening of the Rafah border post. But Israel and Hamas deny the report.

The sources say the border crossing will remain open until 4 p.m. (Dutch time). The ceasefire is also expected to last several hours, but it is still unclear exactly when it will end.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office denies that a ceasefire has been agreed. The report that the border post would be reopened for people with a foreign passport is also contradicted.

Hamas also says it cannot confirm reports of a humanitarian truce. The American embassy in Israel says that the situation at the Rafah border post is still unclear.

Rafah, the border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, was closed recently due to the flare-up of violence between Hamas and Israel. NBC News previously reported that the border post would be reopened. The Gaza Strip, the coastal area with approximately two million inhabitants, borders only Israel and Egypt.

Despite the uncertainty, hundreds of people have gathered at the border crossing, news channel Al Jazeera reports. They carry suitcases, among other things, while the Rafah border post is currently closed.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Urges Opposition to Form Broad Emergency Government Amidst Ongoing Battle with Hamas

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 7, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked opposition parties to form a “broad emergency government”, Israeli media report. He is said to have made an offer during a meeting with Yair Lapid of Yesh Atid and Benny Gantz of the Party of National Unity.

Gantz has said he is considering Netanyahu’s proposal and that an emergency government should only be about the security situation.

Earlier in the day, opposition leader Lapid called on Netanyahu to form an emergency government in the wake of Hamas’s attack on Israel. On

The cooperation between Netanyahu’s government and the opposition stems from the large-scale attack that terrorist movement Hamas launched from the Gaza Strip on Saturday. Hundreds of people have been killed on both sides in the ongoing battle.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has announced “strong retaliation for this black day” against Hamas. “Hamas has started a cruel and evil war. We will win that war, but the price is too heavy to bear,” he said. “Hamas wants to kill us all. This is an enemy that kills mothers and children in their homes, in their beds. An enemy that kidnaps the elderly, children, teenage girls.”
