Riga, โคLatvia – October 26, 2023 – The Oratorio theater is poised to begin its fifth season with aโ possibly historic event: โฃthe world premiere of American playwright Sean Grenan‘s newest work, “keep/Toss.”
A Playwright’s Personal Connection
Grenan himself has expressed deep emotion regarding โthe opportunity to debut “Keep/Toss” with Latvian audiences. โIn direct correspondence, he revealed the play has never before โbeen staged. He shared, “I have to say that I really enjoy being in contact with you. Yesterday I showed your letter โto my โwife and her tears were โin my eyes. โSo I’llโ do something I don’t usually do. I mention your play ‘Keep/Toss’. Premiere!”
The playwright further explained the deeplyโ personal nature of his work. “Any play I choose to produce touches me directly, personally, โand I โขneed to ‘prepare’ myself, my life and my own โขexperience in trying not to return to situations that are notโข mine, but these playsโข that I choose to stage with my actors โฃaffect many couples, families.”
Themes of Life and Renewal
Grenan describes his โplays โคas โขa “soul’s shower,” acknowledging their often-contrasting themes but ultimately emphasizing a โฃparty of life. He believes his work, even when exploring arduous subjects, consistently offers a message โof hope and a “happyโ ending,” if only within the confines of the stage.
