Newark Man Sentenced⁢ to Over⁤ 11 Years for Violent Crimes Against Girlfriend

newark, OH – A Licking‌ County man has been sentenced to 11 to 16 years in ⁣prison for a⁤ series of assaults, strangulations, and ⁢a ‍kidnapping committed against his⁤ girlfriend over a two-month period. Dylan W. Hess, 32, of Newark, ⁢pleaded guilty to two counts ⁢each of felonious ⁤assault, kidnapping, and strangulation,‍ as well as one‍ count of intimidating a witness or victim, during⁤ a hearing ‌on ‍September 2, according to court records.

Judge David Branstool of the Licking County⁢ Common Pleas‌ Court ordered Hess to serve the sentence, with credit given for‍ 126 days‍ already served.

The ⁢Licking County Prosecutor’s Office‍ stated⁢ that Hess ‌repeatedly assaulted and strangled his girlfriend, with many incidents occurring in the presence of children. the assaults often involved the‌ use⁣ of a wooden stick, resulting ⁤in notable bruising to the victim’s body.

Columbus,OH ⁣- local⁢ ABC affiliate WSYX-ABC 6 will not broadcast the return of Jimmy Kimmel live! on ⁢Tuesday,September 24,joining a growing number of stations preempting the show following a brief production suspension and controversy surrounding host Jimmy Kimmel’s recent monologue. The decision by⁣ station owner Sinclair ⁢Broadcast group leaves Columbus-area⁤ viewers⁢ without local access to ‍the late-night programme.

The move comes after Disney, the parent company of ABC, announced it‌ woudl reinstate Jimmy Kimmel⁣ Live! following “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel regarding comments ⁣deemed⁣ “ill-timed and‍ thus insensitive” in the ⁢wake of ongoing national events. Campbell’s Soup Admits to Violating Clean Water Act in Ohio

Campbell Soup Company Admits to Exceeding Pollution Limits in Ohio River Discharges

RICHMOND,CA – Campbell Soup Company has acknowledged exceeding permitted discharge ⁣limits for pollutants⁢ into the⁣ ohio River, violating federal environmental regulations, according to reports and statements from environmental advocacy groups. The company’s wastewater ‍discharges, containing phosphorus and other pollutants, contribute to harmful algal blooms⁣ and threaten aquatic life in the western basin of Lake erie.

The ‌issue centers around the company’s manufacturing facility in Napoleon, Ohio. Between spring 2017 and spring 2021, Campbell’s averaged 5.5 million gallons of daily ⁣wastewater⁤ flow, below⁣ the 10 million gallon daily permit limit,⁤ but still contributing⁤ to overall phosphorus levels in the Maumee River watershed, which feeds into Lake Erie.

“It’s this nasty, green slime⁣ that covers ⁤a huge portion of the western part of Lake Erie,” said John Rumpler, a representative ⁢of the environmental groups concerned about ‌the discharges. “It is incredibly toxic to humans and wildlife and pets.”

The Environmental ⁤Protection agency (EPA) states that excessive phosphorus leads to algal overgrowth, depleting dissolved oxygen, producing harmful toxins, blocking⁢ sunlight for underwater plants, and degrading aquatic habitats. Sources of phosphorus pollution include fertilizers, urban runoff, failing septic systems, and discharges from wastewater treatment ⁤plants.

A ‍June 2023 technical report from⁢ the Ohio EPA detailed ‍the permitted discharge ⁣levels and Campbell’s ancient flows. The company has reportedly acknowledged the need to improve its pollution control measures.

“They know this is a problem,” Rumpler said. ‍”They know‌ that ⁣they need to solve it. It is a question of exactly how much money is going ‍to be involved and what do they need to do to ensure ⁢that this pollution comes down to where it ⁢needs to be.”

The long-term health ‌of Lake Erie has‍ been a concern for decades, with nutrient pollution – particularly phosphorus – identified as a major ⁤driver of harmful algal blooms. ⁢These blooms⁤ can impact drinking water supplies, recreational activities, and the overall‌ ecosystem.

Campbell’s has not yet released a detailed plan outlining specific steps to⁢ address the discharge issues.

Ohio Drought: Columbus Breaks 86-Year Rainfall Record

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 17, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Columbus ⁢Experiences Driest ‌Late Summer on Record, Drought ‍Conditions Worsen

Columbus is facing⁢ its driest late summer in recorded history, ‍exacerbating drought conditions across central Ohio. Just over a quarter inch of rain has‌ fallen in the city so far this September, following a similarly dry August‍ with ⁤only ‌about 6/10ths of an⁤ inch of precipitation. This notable rainfall deficit – far below the normal 3.74 inches typically seen in August – is contributing to ‌expanding areas of moderate drought adn increasing concerns‌ for agriculture, water resources, and potential fire risks.

The lack of rainfall comes as the state of Ohio overall is experiencing widespread ‌dryness. According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor data‌ released Sept.11, only 4% of the Buckeye State is currently‌ free of drought or dry⁢ conditions. Moderate drought ⁢conditions‌ have recently expanded ⁢into Franklin County, having previously been classified as abnormally dry – the least severe level on the ⁤drought scale.⁤

The National Weather ⁢Service data shows the severity of the situation. While residents await potential relief, the seven-day forecast offers little immediate respite, predicting continued sunny and warm conditions.

HereS the seven-day forecast for Columbus:

Sept.17: Sunny, high near 86.

Sept. 18: Sunny, high near 89.

Sept. 19: Sunny, high near 90.

Sept.20: ‌ Mostly sunny, high ⁣near 89.

Sept.‍ 21: Partly sunny, chance of showers, high near 84.⁢ (30% chance of precipitation)

Sept. 22: Partly sunny, chance of showers, high near 83. (30% chance of ‌precipitation)

Former Ohio State Coach Urban meyer Trading Sidelines for Fairways

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is experiencing a dramatic shift in his post-coaching life, trading the intensity of the gridiron for an aspiring pursuit of golf.Since leaving the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 and joining FOX’s college football pregame show, Meyer has reportedly played more golf in the past two years than he did in the previous two decades combined.

Meyer, who previously averaged approximately five rounds of golf per year during his 38-year coaching career, now estimates he’s playing around 100 courses annually. This newfound passion has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious golf destinations, including Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Olympic Club, shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links of America, Old Head in Ireland, and The Renaissance club in Scotland – all consistently ranked among the top 100 courses globally by Golfweek.

“I coached for 38 years.I played five times a year. Now I’m playing a hundy,” Meyer revealed on his “The Triple Option” podcast, co-hosted by Mark ingram. He added, referencing a gift from his daughter, “My daughter got me a little thing where you put pins in to show where you played. That bad boy is filling up here in the last two years. I just gotta get better.”

Meyer’s coaching record includes a remarkable 83-9 run at Ohio State from 2012-2018, culminating in a 2014 national championship and a 7-0 record against rival Michigan. His overall collegiate coaching record stands at 187-32, with two national titles also secured during his tenure at Florida, alongside stops at Bowling Green and Utah.
