President โฃTrump Nominates Aaron Peterson for Federal Judgeship in Alaska
ANCHORAGE, AK – November 13, 2025 – President Trump today announced the nomination of Aaron Peterson, aโข Senior Assistant Attorney General โwith the โAlaska Departmentโข of Law, โto serve โคas aโค judge on the U.S. District Court bench.
Alaskaโ Attorney General Stephen Cox praised the nomination, stating, “Aaron is an exceptional choice. His vast knowledge โofโข both civil and criminal law makes โhim uniquely suited for this position. His recent work on high-stakes โcivil litigation concerning Alaska’s โฃsovereign interests showcases his dedication and integrity. As President Trump has said, Aaron has fought toโ protect Alaska’s greatest assets and the Alaskan โpeople-and I’m โconfident he will strongly uphold our Constitution and make us proud.”
Peterson began his โcareer with the Alaska department โof Law in 2012 asโค a โคprosecutor in the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office, handlingโข cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. โIn 2015, he transitioned to the Office of Special โProsecutions,โ serving as the Statewide Fish and Wildlife Crimes Prosecutor. Since 2019, Peterson has โฃworked in the civil Division’s Natural Resources โขSection, focusing on complex litigation defending Alaska’s interests under federal and state law. his cases โhave involved the Endangered Species Act, National environmental Policy โขAct, Magnuson-Stevensโ Act, Marine Mammal protection Act, andโ alaska National โinterest โขLands Conservation โAct, often with notable implications for Alaska’s โeconomy and resource development.
In a related proclamation, President Trump also nominated Nick Ganjei, former First Assistant U.S. Attorney under Attorney General Cox during the first Trump Administration, to the U.S. District Court โfor the Southern District of Texas. cox remarked, “Nick โwas my indispensable right handโฆand I’m also very proudโ to see him nominated.โ He’ll serve Texas and the country well on the โขfederal bench.”
