Construction of a nuclear power plantNPP) is getting real. One company that has expressed its seriousness in building a nuclear power plant is PT ThorCon Power Indonesia (PT TPI).
Operations Director of PT ThorCon Power Indonesia Bob S Effendi said that the required investment is IDR 17 trillion. This investment does not use the State Budget but with the IPP (Independent Power Producer) scheme.
“So indeed an investment of IDR 17 trillion, we didn’t build a planting in Indonesia, so we built it in Korea, on a ship, but what was built here (Indonesia) is more about the Kelasa Island, the port and also the non-vision test facility. So, some most of the investment will be abroad (at the moment),” he said during a press conference at the office of the Nuclear Energy Monitoring Agency (BAPETEN), Central Jakarta, Tuesday (28/3/2023).
Bob explained that the reason for the construction of a nuclear reactor above the shipyard was considered to be faster. Later, when the PLTNs start operating, it is possible that a factory will be built in Indonesia.
Even though the location for the construction of the plant for the needs of nuclear power plants in Indonesia has not yet been identified, Bob said that it is likely that the factory will be built in Bangka Belitung or more precisely on Gelasa Island after 2030.
“However, going forward, this PLTN which was originally built in Korea will open a factory in Indonesia, that is our commitment,” he concluded.
