Woman Killed, Suspectโฃ in Custody After Shootingโฃ atโฃ texas Indoor Theme โPark
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS,โ TX – A 21-year-old woman was fatally shot inโ theโค parking lot of Malibu Jacks, the largest indoor theme park in Texas, lateโข Sunday night. Northโฃ Richland Hills โPoliceโข have โarrested 18-year-old tychriston Reed and charged him โคwith murderโ in connection with the shooting.
Deshayla jones, โidentified by โฃthe Tarrant Countyโค Medical Examiner’s Office, died at the scene. A 23-year-old man was also injuredโ and transported to a local hospital, โคwhereโ he isโฃ expected toโ recover.
According to police,โข the shooting โฃoccurred shortly before midnight,โข as Malibu Jacks, wich opened in June, was preparing to close. “An altercation apparently had โคbegun between a group of individuals inside the business, and it escalatedโ and wentโ outside,” said โขCarissa Katekaru, the public โaffairs administrator for the North Richland Hills Police Department.”Reed produced a gun and began firing at individuals, striking 21-year-old Deshayla Jones, as โwell as another man.”
Investigators confirmedโข Jones and the male victim knew each other,โ but โthe motive โคfor โฃthe initial altercation remains under examination.
The situation โขescalated โฃfurther when โฃReed allegedly fired toward two uniformed,off-duty North โขRichland Hills police officers who were working security inside Malibu Jacks. “I do no that there is evidence โthatโ shows that heโฃ was shooting at the officers,” katekaru stated. One officerโข returned fire while the other provided immediate first aid to the injured man.
Reed fledโข the scene but was apprehended nearby, just outsideโ the North โRichland โคHills city limits. Policeโ recovered what they believe to โbe the murder weapon at the time of his arrest.
Reed now faces a total of nine charges,โข including murder, โtwo counts of aggravatedโฃ assault against โa public โฃservant, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Malibu โJacks was closed on Sunday followingโ the shooting but reopened โคon Monday. Police have assured the community there is no ongoing threat.
“We work really, really hardโค to keep them safe,” Katekaru said. “I would encourage people toโ continue to frequent establishments like that.”
