Ecuador‘s President Noboa Targeted in Attack During Indigenous-Led National Strike
El Tambo, Caรฑar Province, Ecuador – October 7, 2025 โค- Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa’sโฃ convoyโ was attacked today while en โขroute to an eventโค in the El โฃTambo canton of Caรฑar province, amidst a โขnationwide strike organized by indigenous groups. Approximately 500 individuals reportedly launched stones and fired upon vehiclesโ accompanying the president.
According to Energyโฃ and Minesโ Minister Inรฉs Manzano, President Noboa was unharmed, though vehicles in โthe convoy sustained damage to their bodies and glass. “There โขare signs in the president’s โขcar, but he left unharmed,” โขManzano stated during a press conference.
A 16-second video releasedโ by the Presidencyโข of Ecuador depicts the momentโข of the attack. Followingโฃ the incident, Presidentโค Noboa affirmed his commitment โฃto reaching allโข parts of the country, stating via social media, “We do โขwhat corresponds to us and cannot stop โคus: reach everyโ corner of the country, where families need works, services and the presenceโค of their president.”
The attack occurred as Ecuador is grappling โฃwith a national unemployment actionโข led byโข indigenous peoplesโฃ protesting the Noboa government. The protests have resulted in road blockades and mobilizations across multiple provinces, prompting President Noboa to declare a state of exceptionโ in 10 of ecuador’s 24 provinces.
The Presidency has characterized the protesters as โขdestabilizing forces and announced that those arrested for terrorism orโค attempted murder will be prosecuted accordingly.
The event was to announceโค the construction of a water treatment โขplant in Caรฑar province,โค valued at USD 4.5โฃ million, intended to benefit 26,000 residents, and deliver the Sigsihuayco sewerage system.
