On Friday, only one game was played in the Canadian-American NHL. Although the Slovak attacker’s team also played in it, he did not intervene in the action.

ARI – CAR 1:5

Carolina snaps Coyotes losing streak, Ružička does not play Piotr Kočetkov made 30 saves to lead Carolina to a 5-1 victory over Arizona, which has lost its eighth straight game. Five different players – Jordan Martinook, Jalen Chatfield, Seth Jarvis, Teuvo Teräväinen and Michael Bunting – scored for the Hurricanes, who won their sixth game in their last eight. Martin Nečas and Jack Drury recorded two assists each to be the only multi-point players in the duel. Dylan Guenther took care of the home team’s only goal, reducing the score to 1:2. Karel Vejmelka scored five goals from 26 shots and was replaced by Matt Villalta in the 47th minute. He made four saves in his NHL debut.

Slovakian forward Adam Ružička, who was the Coyotes’ least used player in his first two games after the change of location, did not feature in the starting line-up this time. He was replaced in it by Michael Carcone.

“We started really well, which is always great to see. And then our goalkeeper also performed really well. He made some really good saves,” said the winning team’s coach Rod Brind’Amour after the match, whose players opened the scoring after just 16 seconds and were already leading 2-0 in the fifth minute.

His counterpart, Andre Tourigny stated: “Obviously, the way we started the game was unfortunate. I think it wasn’t because we didn’t play well, but we have to be a little more consistent in the little things, which is up to me. That is my responsibility.’

Thanks to an assist, Jordan Staal tied Jeff O’Neill’s 416 points for sixth on the team’s all-time list. Ron Francis (1,175), Eric Staal (775), Kevin Dineen (544), Sebastian Aho (525) and Brind’Amour (473) are ahead of him.

Martinook opened the scoring after just 16 seconds of the game:

Juraj Slafkovský: Montreal Canadiens’ 2022 Draft Pick and Upcoming Match Against New Jersey Devils

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 11, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Slovak hockey player and 2022 draft pick Juraj Slafkovský has played exactly 40 games in his second season in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens with a record of 4 goals and 11 assists. In his next blog for the website nhl.com/sk, he also commented briefly on the recently concluded Junior WC under 20 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the expected next week’s match against the New Jersey Devils.

Juraj Slafkovský watched the under-20 hockey championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, in detail on television at home in Montreal. “The boys started well, but it didn’t turn out the way we would have liked in Slovakia, even though they had a chance to advance in the quarter-finals with Finland. Nothing can be done. I liked Filip Mešár, whom the Canadiens drafted in the 1st round in the same year as me. He played a good tournament there and to see what a good player he is and how he has moved forward again. I just hope to see you here soon.” evaluated the performance of his peers.

Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský is still diligently practicing shooting. This time, a video from journalist Eric Engels flooded social networks. The native of Košice practiced shooting with a special trainer for this activity even 35 minutes after training.

Slovak fans can already mark the date of January 18 in their calendars, when on the night from Wednesday to Thursday at 1:00 a.m., the first ever match between the Slovak draft team and the number two from the same year, Šimon Nemc, will take place.

And how is “Slafko” looking forward to the meeting with his great friend, whose entry into the best league in the world he is following honestly? “He plays a lot, he plays well and now recently he scored a beautiful goal against Chicago. We are in contact, we write to each other. The seventeenth of January (according to overseas time, editor’s note) we have a game with them, so we will play against each other for the first time in the NHL. I can’t wait to throw the puck into their zone and roll it up to the defenseman on offense.” he wrote in his blog on the web NHL.com/sk.

Slovak Hockey Player Juraj Slafkovský’s Shooting Practice Video with Coach Dr. Shot Goes Viral on Social Media

Slovak hockey player Juraj Slafkovský is still diligently practicing shooting. This time, a video from journalist Eric Engels flooded social networks. The native of Košice practiced shooting with a special trainer for this activity even 35 minutes after training.

He is coach Glen Tucker, nicknamed Dr. Shot – that is, Doctor Strela. He came to the Montreal Canadiens only in December.

What has he become most famous for recently? He is behind the success of David Pastrňák, one of the best scorers in the entire NHL.

“He was probably one of the worst scorers I had in Boston and now he’s scoring a lot of goals. I don’t mean it in any bad way,” Tucker said with a laugh for The Athletic in 2019. In Boston, he didn’t only work with Pastrňák, but also helped Zden Char improve his shooting.

How did he help Chara? “He had a great impact, brave opponents blocked so many shots for him. After working with Tucker Chara, he chose a faster and more accurate shot,” wrote The Athletic.

New Jersey Devils Defenders Luke Hughes and Šimon Nemec Making Strong Impact in NHL

The New Jersey Devils hit the bull’s eye when they drafted Nic Hischier and Jack Hughes first overall. Now overseas, it is also being decided whether it is not too early to conclude that he also hit the black mark when drafting defenders Luke Hughes and Šimon Nemec.

“At this point, I think you could start to say that the Devils really hit it off with those two picks as well. Both were used as defenders. The Devils needed to shore up the defense after dealing with offense and productivity with other top picks,” stated Alex Potts of All About The Jersey.

Potts recalled that Luke Hughes made his debut in the NHL at the end of last season and this season he definitely established himself fully. However, that was also expected of him, and so he just lives up to expectations.

However, in the case of the German, it was not known for certain whether he would be ready for the best league in the world at this point. However, after being called up to the first team, it only shows that he does not want to return to the AHL and that his drafting can be a huge success for the team.

Potts also pointed to advanced stats from this season for both of them, in which the German overall outperformed Hughes in every aspect – an overall rating percentile of 87 vs. 68, offensive 78 vs. 58 and defensive 81 vs. 76.

“The German has a fantastic defensive impact and quality scoring production despite not being pigeonholed as an attacking defender. He’s solidified his role on the team with his play, and there’s no way Lindy Ruff and co. they could send back to Utica while playing,” noted the overseas author.

Both have quality numbers in positional play and expected goals. At the time of Potts’ analysis, Hughes was 14th among defensemen with at least 100 minutes played with a CF% of 58.25, the German was 28th with a CF% of 55.22. In xGF%, the German was 13th at 57.53 and Hughes was 22nd at 56.52.

“These are unbelievable numbers. Yes, both of them are attracted by being in a strong team, at least analytically, but it is not only the merit of their teammates. They also benefit. To be in the top 30 in positional play among 248 defensemen and to be in the top 25 in expected goals on the same roster is pretty remarkable,” Potts stated.

“Defenders take longer to develop than forwards, but they’re both here and playing so well. This is obviously massive progress for the team now and for the long-term future. They become part of the core and at their age they can be here for a very long time. When you have two such strong players anchoring the defense, a duo that can only get better, it’s extremely promising. So far, it looks like both of these elections are going to be wild successes and we couldn’t ask for more from them.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Monday that they have signed star forward William Nylander to a new eight-year, $92 million contract.

The contract, whose cap hit of $11.5 million will make Nylander the fifth-highest-paid player, also includes a full no-trade clause without the player’s permission.

In terms of total contract value, it is the highest in the history of a traditional organization. It surpasses John Tavares’ seven-year, $77 million contract. However, Auston Matthews signed a contract with a higher cap-hit – 13.25 million US dollars.

Nylander is in the midst of a career season in which he has already scored 21 goals and added 33 assists in just 37 games. He has a streak of 47 goals and 120 points. Last year, he set personal bests with 40 goals and 87 points.

The twenty-seven-year-old Swede performed evenly even during the elimination fights. In 30 games of the last four playoffs, he recorded 14 goals and 15 assists. In his career, he collected 40 points in 50 games.

MONTREAL – The hockey players of Montreal won on Sunday night over the leader of the Eastern Conference of the NHL New York Rangers 4:3 after separate raids. Slovak striker Juraj Slafkovský did not enter the Canadian scoring.

Of the Slovakians, only Calgary forward Martin Pospíšil scored, who scored an assist in a 2:3 loss in Philadelphia. His teammate Adam Ružička became the Slovak record holder in the number of games played for Calgary.

Even though the Slovakian striker did not score points in the Canadiens’ service, he showed his skill in the middle of the first period and started the Montreal action with an effective pass, in which teammate Brendan Gallagher’s opening goal was later scored.

Cole Caufield converted the decisive single run in Montreal, who was the only one to open the net in the second series. Montreal ranks 13th in the East. The Canadiens led 3-0 on goals from Brendan Gallagher, Sean Monahan and Joel Armia, but the Rangers were able to equalize in regulation time with goals from Artemij Panarin (25th goal of the season), Vincent Trocheck and Adam Fox.

“Every home game is special, but today it had even more charge. Saturday night, Rangers in town, it was a big game. It’s a shame we didn’t keep the lead, but we have two points. Monty made several great saves,” Gallagher told nhl.com, praising goaltender Sam Montembeault, who made 45 saves. Slafkovský started again in the first attack, he was on the ice for 19 minutes and 25 seconds. He had one negative point, one hit and one shot.

Pospišil and his fourth assist of the season

Four Slovaks appeared in Saturday’s program, only one scored points. Attacker Martin Pospíšil scored his fourth assist in the ongoing season. However, his goal pass was not enough for Calgary for points, as the Flames lost 2-3 on the ice of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Pospíšil sent a vertical pass from the defensive zone in the second period, Jonathan Huberdeau converted a solo run and gave the “Flames” a 1:0 lead. Adam Ružička didn’t score in the Flames jersey, but he started his 108th game for Calgary, breaking the current Slovak record held by Ronald Petrovicky in the number of matches played for the Flames.

He played 107 times for the team from the Canadian province of Alberta. Ružička is also the most productive Slovak in the club’s history, having collected 40 points for 14 goals and 26 assists. Pospišil was on the ice for 8 minutes and 7 seconds, had a plus point, one hit and one shot.

Ružička played only 19 seconds more than his compatriot and did not enter the statistics. Marek Hrivík and Róbert Döme from the Slovaks also wore the Flames jersey in the past. The Flyers stopped a series of four losses, Travis Konecny scored the winning goal at the beginning of the third period in a weakened state. “The first period was okay, but the opponent was better later on,” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said.

The German was the Devils’ most used player

Šimon Nemec started again in the first defense of New Jersey, but the Devils lost to Vancouver 4:6 at home. With a time of 23:32, the Slovak defender was the team’s most used player. In addition to the loss, the Devils also regret the loss of the important defender Jonathan Siegenthaler. The German’s Swiss defensive colleague did not finish the duel after Canucks quarterback Filip Hronek hit him in the leg with a hard shot in the second period. “Devils” coach Lindy Ruff did not have good news after the match.

“Jonas is not well. He has a broken leg and will be out for a while,” the New Jersey coach said. JT Miller and Elias Pettersson scored two goals and an assist for the winners, Quinn Hughes had three assists. Goalkeeper Thatcher Demko blocked 21 shots and claimed his 100th victory in the NHL.

The Devils started without elite center Jack Hughes, who suffered an upper body injury in the game against Chicago. The Devils reduced from 0:3 to 2:3, then from 2:5 to 4:5, but Dakota Joshua closed the Canucks’ victory into an empty net. “I liked the deployment. Twice we came within one goal, but we held on,” Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said.
