OnePlus‘ OxygenOS 16 Integrates Google Gemini AI, Expands Mind Space Capabilities
October 16, 2024 - OnePlus today unveiled OxygenOS 16, its latest operating system based on Android 16, featuring deep integration with Google’s Gemini AI assistant and significant enhancements to its mind Space tool. The update also introduces expanded lock screen customization options and improved cross-device connectivity.
Originally launched in June, Mind Space initially focused on analyzing screenshots for data extraction and calendar event creation. OxygenOS 16 expands Mind Space’s functionality to include support for scrolling screenshots and 60-second voice memos, providing Gemini with more thorough data for processing.
The integration with Gemini allows users to leverage the AI assistant to perform tasks based on information saved within Mind Space. For example, users can compile screenshots related to travel plans – hotels, flights, attractions – and instruct Gemini to generate a detailed itinerary.
Beyond Mind Space, OxygenOS 16 offers lock screen customization options similar to those introduced in Apple’s iOS 16 in 2022. Connectivity has also been improved through the O Plus Connect app, enabling seamless photo sharing with iPhones, basic notification syncing with Apple Watches, and remote control capabilities for both Mac and Windows PCs.
The update also promises performance improvements, smoother animations, and a new “Optical Light” visual effect in the user interface. Many of the features in OxygenOS 16 are shared with Oppo’s ColorOS 16, which was also revealed today alongside the Find X9 flagship phones.
An open beta for OxygenOS 16 begins tomorrow, October 17th, with an official launch planned alongside the upcoming OnePlus 15. The update will subsequently be rolled out to older OnePlus devices.
