Mendoza School on Lockdown after Studentโค Enters with Firearm
MENDOZA, Argentina – A 14-year-old student enteredโ the Marcelino Blancoโ de la Pazโ school in Mendoza, Argentina, on Wednesday morning with a firearm, prompting a large-scale responseโ from police and emergency services. The โขstudent reportedly fired at least threeโ shots into the air and then entrenched themselves within the school building,โ causing widespread alarm among the โขschoolโ community.
According toโ initial reports, no injuries have been registered as an inevitable โคresult of the incident. Authorities have requested that the public refrain โfrom gathering near โคthe school โto โallow crisis negotiators to work effectively.
“We ask the general citizenship to refrain from attending โคthe vicinity of the Marcelinoโ Blanco de laโข pazโฃ school, within the framework of a situation where the security and respect for the best interests of the girl involved andโค her context must prevail,” stated โฃa joint release from the Ministries of Security and Justice, Health, and Education,โฃ Culture, children and DGE.
Police and firefighters are collaborating on the evacuation of students. A โpolice helicopter was โฃdeployed toโฃ transportโ mediators from the Incident and Kidnapping Resolution Group (Gray) to assist in the negotiation process.
Unofficialโ reports indicate the โstudent โmayโ haveโ been a victim of bullying โฃand, after โขfeeling ignored by a teacher, targeted a mathematics teacher. A social โขmedia post alleges the student intended to attack the teacher.
