Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Extends Schools’ Flexibility for Distance Learning Amidst Illness

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 12, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can continue to switch to partial or complete distance learning independently in the event of many cases of illness among the teachers. The Ministry of Education in Schwerin extended the so-called phase model until the end of this school year, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Initially, the regulation conceived during the corona pandemic should only remain in force until the Easter holidays, which ended on Wednesday. With the extension, the school management can now continue to act flexibly in order to secure lessons in the event of increased sick leave from teachers.

The Education and Science Union (GEW) welcomed the extension. This model is intended to flexibly counter acute waves of illness. “This was what the school management wanted and was supported by the Education and Science Union in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania,” said Nico Leschinski, head of GEW. Especially in terms of the independent school, it is necessary for school management to be able to act quickly if several teachers are ill at the same time and bottlenecks arise.

On Thursday, lessons began again for the 160,000 students at the general schools in MV. The final exams will start soon.

The written exams for the Abitur begin on April 26 with the subject German. The first intermediate school-leaving exam is also scheduled for June 2 in German. With a view to the after-effects of the corona pandemic, the state has specified the material relevant to the exam again this year, as it was said. In addition, the students would have 30 minutes more time per exam.

New meerkats on guard duty at Rostock Zoo, with expectations for more to come

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 11, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Rostock (dpa) – A new group of meerkats is on guard duty in Rostock Zoo: zoo director Antje Angeli and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s lottery boss Ait Stapelfeld as animal sponsor welcomed the four newcomers. It is a female meerkat from the Leipzig Zoo and three brothers from the Krefeld Zoo. All were born in 2021. As a welcome greeting, there was an extra portion of goodies for the lively gang.

The family is expected to grow soon. “Meerkats tend to reproduce very quickly,” said Mammals Curator Daniela Lahn. After a gestation period of about 70 days, a female usually gives birth to two litters a year, usually consisting of three to seven young. “So we could expect the first offspring as early as June.”

From the previous group there are still two older male animals who reached “retirement age” at the age of eleven. With meerkats, it is difficult to integrate new animals into an existing group. That’s why they looked for a quiet place for the two older animals.

The meerkats, whose homeland is South Africa, are known for their upright sentry posture on their hind legs. While part of the group is busy looking for food and digging, a guard stands on a hilltop, keeps a lookout and emits warning calls in case of danger.

Still positive for Corona after five days?

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 21, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

From mid-February, anyone who is infected with Corona no longer has to be isolated at home anywhere in Germany. But what if the test is still positive after five days?

Anyone infected with the Coronavirus confirmed by a PCR test or a rapid test from an official body, no longer has to go to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) prescribed isolation: do not leave home for five days and do not receive visitors? Only a few federal states are still putting this recommendation into practice. According to the regulations in force there, domestic isolation ends for five days – provided you have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours. Specifically, these are the following states:

  • Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • Berlin
  • Brandenburg

However, it does not stop there: In all three federal states, the obligation to isolate will be abolished on February 12th and 13th, 2023, so this also applies nationwide.

After corona quarantine: no test obligation after isolation

In the majority of federal states, it is already the case that even after five days of isolation, there is no longer an obligation to test yourself. No rapid antigen test or PCR test needs to be performed. This is reported by the Federal Center for Health Education, but also advises: “After isolation, you should limit meetings with others until day 14 and wear medical mouth and nose protection when in contact with others.” The test is therefore voluntary and personal responsibility is also encouraged in the days after the quarantine.

Free testing after five days: what to do if the test is positive?

However, the Robert Koch Institute “urgently” advises infected people to test themselves with a rapid antigen test after the five days before they end the isolation. Because the disease itself does not follow rules, of course; Many infections last longer than the prescribed quarantine. So what to do if the corona test is still positive after five or even ten days?

Anyone who wants to take a free test after five days in the federal states where the obligation to isolate still applies and has a positive test result again must remain in quarantine until a negative result is available. However, as of mid-February, this policy is in full Deutschland lapsed.

Quarantine: When did the five days of isolation apply?

The days of isolation were counted from the day symptoms appeared. In the case of people who tested positive but who did not develop any signs of illness, the calculation started from the day on which the positive test was carried out.

Still having corona symptoms after five days?

Anyone who has been symptom-free for 48 hours was able to end the isolation at home after five days. If you have not been symptom-free for 48 hours at this point, you had to remain in isolation – until this was the case, but at most until the end of 10 days. The calculation of the isolation period begins on the day after the corona infection was detected. Anyone who continues to have symptoms after the end of isolation on day 10 is recommended to voluntarily self-isolate until a negative self-test is obtained, but for a maximum of another five days.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care recommends special precautionary measures for a further five days after isolation. This includes wearing an FFP2 mask outside your own home, especially in closed rooms. You should also avoid unnecessary contact with other people and work from home if possible. Advice that should therefore be implemented in the event of any viral disease. In addition, sick people should seek medical help if corona symptoms threaten to stop going away.

Greifswald (dpa/mv) – This year’s “Nordic Sound” festival invites you to Greifswald from May 5th to 14th with a program of Northern European culture and music. The organizers announced on Tuesday that artists from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Estonia were expected at the 32nd edition. The repertoire ranges from folk-pop and folk-rock to jazz. Readings, exhibitions, films and a diverse scientific program are also planned.

One focus this year is on the culture of the indigenous Sami community. “Sami music never ceases to amaze!” Frithjof Strauss, the festival’s artistic director, was quoted as saying. Among other things, because of the connections that they enter into with other styles. According to the information, this year’s patron is the Swedish Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand in addition to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD). Because of Germany’s presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the 2023 festival is of particular cultural and political importance.

Energy – Schwerin – Aid for heating oil, wood and pellets: Meyer welcomes plans – economy

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 8, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Economics Minister is pleased to approve plans to approve hardship aid for companies that rely on heating oil, wood and pellets. “This is absolutely the right signal, which the economy has been waiting for a long time,” said Reinhard Meyer on Tuesday in Schwerin. However, due to the back and forth in Berlin, time was wasted unnecessarily.

As the German Press Agency learned on Tuesday, according to an agreement reached by the traffic light economic politicians in Berlin, the funds for the hardship regulation are to be increased by 25 million euros. At the end of January, the budget committee of the Bundestag released 375 million euros for hardship support for small and medium-sized companies – but this did not include any aid for heating oil and pellets.

State Minister of Economics Meyer emphasized the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and consumers: “It is crucial that the originally agreed support for hardship aid is made available in full,” he said.

According to the information, the north-east is to receive 20 million euros in SME hardship funds from the federal government and funds in the same amount from the state treasury. In addition, there are 10 million euros for loans in the event of material price increases and supply chain disruptions. According to the ministry in Schwerin, there are also guarantees and loans to ensure liquidity.

Police stop taxi driver with 2.3 per thousand alcohol in the blood

02/03/2023, 10:55 am

Sanitz (dpa / mv) – A taxi driver from the district of Rostock temporarily lost his job by driving under the influence of alcohol. As a police spokesman said on Friday in Güstrow, the 60-year-old was stopped in his taxi in Sanitz on Thursday morning. He had attracted attention with a ride in wavy lines. According to the police, a breath alcohol test revealed 2.32 per mille, so that the man’s driver’s license and passenger transport license were taken away.

Investigations revealed that the 60-year-old had already driven about 30 kilometers to the neighboring district of Vorpommern-Rügen and was now on his way back to his hometown further south. The man had to go to the blood test and then be picked up. The public prosecutor’s office will now decide whether and when he will get his driver’s license and permission to transport people back.
