Uttarakhand hospital Sealed after Two Mothers Die During Childbirth
A police inquiry is underway and maa Ganga Maternity and Eye Care Hospital in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, has been sealed following teh deaths of two women shortly after giving birth on Sunday night. The newborns survived the ordeal, but the simultaneous deaths have sparked protests from grieving families who allege negligence on the part of hospital staff.
The incident occurred in the bahadarabad area of the temple town. Authorities responded to reports of unrest and brought the situation under control. Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the hospital’s doctors and staff, based on complaints filed by Tinuu and Monty.
The bodies of the deceased women have been transferred to the district hospital mortuary in Haridwar for post-mortem examinations and legal proceedings. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) oversaw the sealing of the hospital as the investigation continues.
This tragedy follows a similar incident last month in Jalandhar, Punjab, where three patients died in the ICU of Jalandhar Civil hospital after a temporary disruption in oxygen supply. Those patients, who were receiving ventilation for conditions including a snake bite, drug overdose, and tuberculosis, experienced a brief interruption due to a technical fault.
hospital administrators in Jalandhar maintained that the deaths were not directly linked to the oxygen issue, stating that backup cylinders were deployed immediatly. A nine-member committee has been established to investigate the Jalandhar incident, with promises of action if negligence is resolute.Families of the deceased, however, attribute the deaths to the oxygen failure, and the final cause remains under investigation.
