Huawei Unveils Mate xts: A New Standard in Foldable Phone technology
Shenzhen, China – September 4, 2025 – Huawei has launched theโ Mate โXts, it’s second generation three-foldable smartphone, โshowcasing meaningful advancements in design and โฃtechnology. The declaration was made during a โคlive launch eventโ in โคShenzhen, the company’s headquarters and a key technological hub in china, with details reported by Bloomberg.
Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer division,โข highlighted the Mate Xts โคas “not just a foldable phoneโฆ a exhibition of engineering โฃforce.”
The Mateโฃ Xts โboasts two folding mechanisms, โขtransformingโ from a smartphone into โขa nearly 26-centimeter (diagonal) tablet. This represents an improvement over the previous model, and comes with a reduced price tag of approximately $2,500, down โfrom $2,800 in 2024.
A key component of the Mate โขXts is the Kirin โฃ9020 โฃ processor, a locally produced chip thatโข underscores Huawei’s efforts to lessen its reliance on Western technologies. The โcompanyโข states it has achieved “mass production” โขof the device, now โavailableโข in four color variants โฃ- black, white, green, and gold – an increase from the two offered in the first generation.Huawei is โalso further distancing itself from Google’s Android operating system with the Mate Xts,โฃ which runs on HarmonyOS, developed internally. Collaboration โคwith Chinese developers, including tech giant Tencent and its WeChat โapp, has enabled advancedโข multitasking features, a desktop experience, and mobile PC application compatibility โwithinโฃ HarmonyOS.
The launch โขcomes at a time of significantโ growth in the foldable phone market,โข which โhas seen a 45% โขincrease worldwide, according to dataโ from โCounterpoint research.โข China currently leads โglobal deliveries,โข with Huawei’s presence steadily growing.
Analysts โpredict Apple will โขenter the foldable phoneโ market nextโ year with its first foldable iPhone. Huawei’s Mateโข Xts aims to โขsolidify its position in China andโ set a new benchmark for smartphone design.Durability remains a key concern for three-foldable devices.โ Expert Jerryโข Hildebrand previouslyโค warned that “adding a second foldingโฃ point increases the risk of mechanical fragility.” The first Mate XT faced criticism for the mechanical โขvulnerability of its โscreen. Huawei claims to have addressed โคtheseโค concerns with “significant steps in theโฃ body architecture”โ for theโ Mate Xts, resulting in improved durabilityโข compared to โขthe previous generation.
