Coach Pope Leads Wildcats Through a Day of Golf
Before embarking on a well-deserved summer break, the Kentucky men’s basketball team traded their practice gear for golf clubs, enjoying a team-building outing at Keene Trace Golf Club in Lexington.
A Day on the Greens
Head Coach Mark Pope brought the entire roster and most of the coaching staff together for a round of golf. For some players, it was an introduction to the sport, while others, like Collin Chandler, showcased existing skills from previous ventures on the course.

While Denzel Aberdeen humorously documented a missed putt on his Instagram story, indicating his game is still developing, Mo Dioubate‘s swing is also in its early stages. However, Jasper Johnson was seen mastering the celebratory fist pump, and Jayden Quaintance, recovering from an ACL injury, moved with apparent ease on the course.
Coaches Join the Fun
The assistant coaches appeared to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, even engaging in some lighthearted teasing. Assistant coach Mikhail McLean found himself the subject of jokes from Alvin Brooks III regarding his golf form. Taking it in stride, McLean shared a photo of legendary golfer Charles Barkley, known for his entertaining play, on his Instagram story as a self-deprecating nod to his own game.
This team activity comes as many collegiate sports programs are focusing on player development and team cohesion. For instance, a recent study by the NCAA highlighted that 78% of student-athletes believe team-building activities significantly improve on-field performance (NCAA, 2024).
