Tragic⁣ Loss in Brivio

The town of Brivio, Italy, is⁣ in mourning ​following the deaths of two 21-year-old women struck by a car on ​Wednesday evening.Milena Marangon ‍and Giorgia Cagliani were​ walking along the roadside, en route to a village festival in Airuno, when the ‌incident occurred.

According to initial reports,‍ the young women⁣ were‍ walking on the edge of the carriageway, an area‍ lacking a ‍sidewalk, ​when a sedan collided with a​ parked vehicle before striking them. ⁤ One victim died instantly, while the other succumbed to⁤ her injuries shortly after, despite the rapid ‌response of emergency services. A third friend, ⁤aged 20, was‌ present at the scene but unharmed.

Investigation⁣ Underway

The driver of‍ the vehicle, a 30-year-old⁢ man of ⁢foreign origin, was immediately arrested following preliminary assessments of his condition. Authorities are investigating whether impairment played⁤ a role in the accident.

The Carabinieri of the Merate company (Lecco) are currently investigating the‍ precise causes and⁣ circumstances ⁢surrounding the incident. Preliminary ​findings suggest the⁤ driver may have ‌attempted ⁤to avoid another ⁣vehicle before losing control and colliding⁤ with the parked car and the two pedestrians,‌ near a road intersection.
