Hunger-Stricken Mother of Slain Law Student Takes to Controlling Traffic in Aluva

Aluva: Rajeshwari, who came to Aluva from Perumbavoor to meet the Rural SP demanding the job of a traffic warden to alleviate hunger, controlled traffic on Palace Road for two and a half hours. Finally, Pink Police intervened and persuaded him to take him to the bus stop to Perumbavoor.

Rajeshwari is the mother of the law student who was killed in Kurupampadi on April 28, 2016. Rajeshwari was in the news during the Assembly elections that year and thereafter.

‘I’m hungry. It is hunger. The government, which announced that it was taking me over, is not looking back. I like the job of traffic warden. Let those including SP have compassion if they have it. Don’t eat at least one meal a day? Am I not a human woman? Am I not hungry and thirsty?’-says Rajeshwari.

After visiting Manappuram Mahadeva Temple in the morning, Rajeshwari reached in front of the Municipal Rest House on Palace Road at 9.30 and controlled the vehicles. It continued till 12. Many noticed that a woman with a bag slung over her shoulder was irregularly controlling traffic in the middle of the road. Few recognized Rajeshwari.

‘I haven’t had a job in years. He had gone to do housework and to beat shop windows. Also worked as a home nurse. No job is available for many days. No cash in hand. The elder daughter and her husband live elsewhere. The house built by the government collapsed. Washroom floored’ – Rajeshwari offered alms.

Rajeshwari received financial assistance from various centers after her daughter’s murder became a big news. There was a joint account and deposit in the name of the Collector and Rajeshwari. The eldest daughter was given a job in the revenue department. Rajeshwari complained that all the money in the account was exhausted and that many people did not pay the amount that was collected in their name that day.
