A woman’s body was discovered inside a vehicle at the Lake Illawarra Police Station car park on Friday, prompting a critical incident examination. Police are working to formally identify the woman, who was found in an advanced state of decomposition after being in a locked car for an unknown period.
NSW Police South coast District Commander Joe Cassar told media whether the woman engaged with police to ask for help, or to file a report, will form part of the investigation. “The weather has been hot, the vehicle was locked, there woudl have been exceptional temperatures inside the vehicle,” he said.A police officer investigating a parked vehicle discovered what appeared to be a “large object” underneath a blanket on Friday. NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene.
The investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission,with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
