TEF: The Mitsotakis oracles, the medicinal arrows for SYRIZA, PaSoK and “I’m sorry” – 2024-09-11 21:17:51

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 11, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A few minutes before the clock struck exactly 12 noon, Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in Vellideio at TIF. In a good mood and smiling, he welcomed the journalists who a few minutes later, one by one, would ask questions, giving him the opportunity to talk about the government’s reforms that aspire to correct the everyday problems that citizens face. Accuracy and the economy in general, the housing crisis, the contradictions in the Health system, were among the main issues on which the prime minister focused.

After all, it was these problems that displeased a portion of citizens and this was shown by the June ballot. It is no secret that the percentage received by the blue faction in the European elections did not satisfy Megaros Maximos and personally the prime minister. But it was not a bad result, as he wanted to clarify, but below expectations. It is a ballot box, as he said, that favors protest voting as well as abstention.

The smug Mitsotakis

Kyriakos Mitsotakis wanted to appear with an air of self-confidence, possibly smugness, in Thessaloniki. He put on ice the scenarios that want him to pack for Europe by emphasizing, jokingly, that he is not retiring. “I am prime minister and leader of the New Democracy and I have no intention of retiring,” he noted, ending by saying, however, that “2027 is a long way off. We live in a very unpredictable environment and, as I told you, it’s a bit smug to speak either for myself or to make predictions about what’s going to happen in 2027.”

He did not even rule out the possibility of self-reliance of the blue faction in the next national elections. In some disgust, he expressed his opinion saying that “I don’t think there is any other governance proposal for the country other than the one expressed by the government”. After all, it is a fact that when the prime minister unveiled the thousand-day program, or otherwise the government’s vision until the end of its term in 2027, everyone’s eyes were on SYRIZA.

The nails for SYRIZA, PaSoK

The stormy developments in the official opposition party also occupied the prime minister who asked journalists what was the latest being recorded from the Koumundourou front. However, when he received a relevant question about the opposition, he was particularly sharp. “SYRIZA is in a state of aphasia” he said while admitting that at that time everyone was waiting for developments.

He was also critical of PASOK. As Mr. Mitsotakis said, “”no to everything”, the description of a country in which almost all the citizens are, I would say, poor and destitute, does not fit today’s Greece”. “So it would be positive for our democracy to have an alternative proposal, but the proposal must be composed, documented and costed. Unfortunately, at the moment we do not see this,” the prime minister noted.

“I’m sorry” about PtD

It would be particularly interesting to know what the President of the Republic was thinking and feeling when she heard Kyriakos Mitsotakis defending her after a long period of paraphilology about whether or not she will renew her term in the Presidential Palace. The prime minister did not hide his discomfort with what has been circulating lately, especially after the European elections, about the future of Mrs. Sakellaropoulou.

“I’m sorry for recycling this conversation,” he replied sternly. “This debate will take place in January and until then I will say absolutely nothing, other than the fact that I respect and appreciate the President of the Republic. I’m saying exactly the same things I said before the elections”, confirming that the tenants of the neighboring buildings in Herodos Attikou continue to maintain excellent relations. Even in a more personal tone, Mr. Mitsotakis explained that this debate is unfair both for the person of Katerina Sakellaropoulou and for the institution. “However, I consider it very unfair both for her and for the institution that there is a continuous debate surrounding the person of the next President of the Republic before its time and I will ask all of you, I think, to we respect the institution first and foremost”, he said meaningfully.

Satisfaction for Beleri

Shortly before the end of the press conference, Kyriakos Mitsotakis also referred to the relations between Greece and Albania that were tested after the arrest and imprisonment of Freddy Beleris. The MEP of New Democracy, in fact, was in Vellideio on Saturday during the prime minister’s speech. On this matter, Mr. Mitsotakis said: “We have gone through a difficult time and I do not want to talk in detail about the case of Freddy Belleris. To express my satisfaction with the fact that he was with us at the International Exhibition and that this adventure, completely unfair and unnecessary, which he suffered, is finally over.”

The time of the interview was “held”, reverently, one would say, by the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis. He emphasized right from the beginning that journalists should ask a question so that everyone is given time and space. The interview ended a little after 2 hours after it started. When the television lights went out, Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked the journalists who were at the 88th Exhibition, renewed their appointment for next year, stressing however that the work continues on the government project with the same intensity.

Mitsotakis: The next phase of governance and the unknown X of the opposition – 2024-09-11 12:18:51

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 11, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the hundreds of government officials had a pleasant weekend in Thessaloniki, without surprises, pleasant or unpleasant.

It was one of the few times that almost everything was discounted, from the announcements, to the questions and answers at the press conference.

Following these, the conclusions and the political horizon are essentially clear. Apart from shocking contingencies, which can neither be predicted nor ruled out.

The prime minister now expects the implementation of his announcements by the ministers and all those involved, he intends to exhaust the four years, he insists that he will not move to Europe or elsewhere, he is not prepared for bold or bold moves in the constitutional revision, such as the separation of state- church, leaves the right wing of the ND to dream of right turns and hopes that his announcements will once again convince that part of his electoral audience that turned their backs on him in the European elections to trust him again in 2027.

The question of “recovery of momentum”

In a sense, with this year’s TIF, Kyriakos Mitsotakis seems to be at a pivotal point in his prime ministerial term. Either he will manage to reverse the peculiar political condition of running unopposed, but always stumbling somewhere, or he will somehow regain his momentum and confirm his political dominance.

As far as the government is concerned, this is the data and it is still alone in facing the problems and crises and moods of the citizens.

However, the critical condition of the political setting is likely to be influenced by other parameters. And the most basic of them is the correlation of forces in the field of the opposition. The disruption in PASoK and SYRIZA is that element of the basic pending and political distortion of the last years, which may in the current situation and if the landscape becomes clear for both parties, offer alternative proposals. If that happens, the first polls towards the end of the year will show whether there are signs of political upheaval. Despite the general complacency, some in the government know this too.

Maria Karystianou to Mitsotakis: “Give up your immunity, respect the dead” – 2024-09-10 18:32:57

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Catapult once again is Maria Karystianou, president of the Association of Relatives of Tempi Victims 2023 and mother of 20-year-old Marthis Psaropoulos who lost her life in the deadly train collision in Tempi.

«Only the guilty fear the apology. Those wrongfully involved are looking for it” emphasizes a 24-hour period after the Prime Minister’s press conference in the context of the 88th TIF.

To the one and only question that was allowed to be asked about Tempi to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he replied that “accusations about the slander are unacceptable” and she retorted “if something is unacceptable, Mr. Mitsotakis, it is the event itself and everything you have said about the crime of Tempi” while reminding the prime minister, that “two case files on the embezzlement have been transferred to the Parliament (logically Mr. Tasoulas keeps them in his drawer) and concern your representative Mr. Triandopoulos”.

Maria Karystianou in her post, among other things, responding to what the Prime Minister said about the need to start the trial for the crime of Tempe by the end of the year, underlines that “this is the cause of the delay… the cover-up on the part of the guilty and the need to reveal the truth on our part”.

“As for her your obvious interference with justicewhat can we say… It is now known to everyone that you like it and even consider it your right!!! Up to here!”he notes.

“Noticing the government’s insistence that the trial be launched quickly and that those responsible be held accountable, why don’t you proceed with the obvious? Waive your immunity requesting that all the ministers involved follow it so that:

Show respect for the Judiciary. Respect to the dead and to us. Respect to 1,500,000 citizens who want clarity and the removal of immunity in the crime of Tempe.

This way we will be brought to trial more quickly without the current danger of sloppiness and cover-up”.

Her post closes with Kyriakos Mitsotakis always in her sights: “You, as a prime minister who remains in office despite the allegations and growing rumors following you, must clear your name and the image of the party you represent. This is not Mr. Mitsotakis’ choice. It is your obligation”

In closing, he brings back the two big questions about the crime of Tempe: “Why did you move the dirt? Why did my child burn?”

“Every day counts” – Mitsotakis weighs the TIF basket – Thoughts on surprise measures – 2024-09-09 16:06:21

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

At the Maximos Palace, one meeting follows the other with the aim of putting the final touches on the package of benefits that the Prime Minister will announce at the TIF. The basket of benefits is not expected to be large. But it will be targeted at what hurts the ND, i.e. the issues of everyday life.

For Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the government’s turn to the problems of everyday life is a one-way street. And the losses of the European elections, as all the latest measurements show, do not seem to be making up.

In the government staff they know that everyday life is the government’s big bet. If she can get the message out that she can deal with her problems, she can hope for a recovery. If not, then the efforts to free the ND from the polling cord as soon as possible will fall into the void.

“Every day counts”

Mitsotakis, as reported by his colleagues, operates with the logic that “every day counts”. But also every day the message of efficiency should be transmitted. From the front of accuracy to the housing crisis and the crisis of the operation of the NHS which appears to be broken there is the need to have concrete and measurable results.

It is no coincidence that personally Mitsotakis, together with the relevant ministers, comes forward with public appearances of a “social” and “developmental” nature: from Thessaloniki he presented the “national strategy” for regional development, from long-suffering Thessaly he admitted that “the damage and the wounds are here”, presenting short-term and long-term plans, from a nursery school in Thisio spoke of “substantial support” for families with young children, etc.

The basket of benefits

The financial staff has delivered its final recommendations, while the discussion with Brussels on the additional fiscal space, in addition to the already foreseen 3 billion euros, which will allow them to “unlock” some additional interventions, is being completed. Insurance contributions are being discussed in particular (it has been announced that they will be reduced by 0.5% and possibly lock in a larger reduction that will reach 1%).

The possibility of extra benefits being directed towards ESY workers is also being discussed. What is considered certain is that an attempt will be made in the TIF basket to include measures for freelancers, pensioners and vulnerable groups.

According to information in Maximou, they are betting on 1 billion euros from community funds to extend the “My Home” program from the beginning of 2025 to up to 50 years old, while they are also focusing on tax incentives for property owners to open their closed apartments and to throw them into the long-term lease. ¨As mentioned in the relevant report, this is an issue that the right-wing ND voters are particularly pushing for (and) considering that the support of the family has been left behind.

How does the game turn?

In this context, an increase in the child allowance (and an increase in the foster care allowance) should be expected, as well as “injections” in other social benefits. As far as those with three children are concerned, it is expected, not complete identification with those with many children, but a clear strengthening of them: in other words, to obtain more privileges by “getting closer” to the group of those with many children. One of the proposals on the table is the lifelong recognition of triplets – to stop the family from losing this status and therefore the related benefits from the moment a child reaches adulthood.

Regarding the Prime Minister’s speech, his associates stress that it will have as its central philosophy the logic of “what we said, what we did, what we will do from now on”. In M. Maximou’s opinion, at the present stage the ND remains the main player in the political scene. The question is whether he can turn the game around and make up for the losses he is showing.

The die has been cast: This is the Mitsotakis package at TIF – The final 8 interventions – 2024-09-09 07:22:55

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

This year’s presence of Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the TIF next weekend has very different elements from the previous five. Above all, it has an element of political criticality, as the Prime Minister is called upon to reverse the heavy climate for the government after the recent European elections and to achieve the much-desired “restart”.

The interventions that will obviously be announced and will basically have an economic-social nature, with a view to supporting the weaker and vulnerable, will however focus on housing, with restrictions on airbnb, tax incentives for long-term leases, etc. and other measures.

The significant institutional intervention and the brake from the Stability Pact

It is also widely rumored that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also include in his announcements an important institutional intervention, in view of the ongoing constitutional review.

However, the announcements are subject to the contradictions and limitations of the revised Stability Pact, which puts the brakes on deficits and spending, as well as the unfavorable international economic situation, which due to wars does not show many signs of optimism.

Based on these, the measures expected to be announced by Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Saturday’s speech will include the following:

  • The program “My House 2”, amounting to 2 billion euros. 50% of its financing will be covered by loans from the Recovery Fund and the remaining 50% by bank borrowing.
  • The expansion of the beneficiaries, with the age criterion reaching 50 years, from 39 that was in the previous program
  • The expansion of the income criteria with zero interest for three and many children
  • The age of the properties should be less than 15 years.
  • Social Compensation. By the end of the year or at the beginning of 2025, the first international tender is expected to be announced for the construction of 3,000 houses on State plots and the utilization of 1,600 vacant properties throughout the country
  • There will be improvements to the “Renovate – Rent” program, which is expected to start immediately. Among other things, it is expected to announce an increase in the subsidy from 4,000 to 6,000 euros (60% for total costs up to 10,000 euros) and the advance payment of the amount to 50%.
  • Support of vulnerable social groups with permanent measures amounting to 880 million euros which will be included in the 2025 budget. They will include: Reduction of insurance contributions by 0.5%, costing 215 million euros (possibly the reduction will reach 0.75 %), abolition of the business tax for professionals, costing 120 million euros, permanent return of the Special Consumption Tax to farmers, costing 100 million euros, increase in student housing allowance, costing 15 million euros, increase in pensions costing approximately 400 million euros, suspension of VAT on construction, costing 20 million euros.
  • In particular, with regard to increases for the 2.4 million pensioners, interventions are envisaged that will be legislated with the mini-insurance policy: Horizontal increase of 2.6% – 2.8% for all, granting of a “personal difference allowance” to all those have a personal difference and lose the general increase, finalization by EFKA of the list of beneficiaries to whom the 300 million euros will be shared from the taxation of the super profits of the refineries, increases of up to 42 euros per month in the main pensions that exceed 1,400 euros through the change of the scale of the Emergency Pensioner Solidarity Contribution

Closed houses: No tax for 3 years for those who open – What does the Mitsotakis package provide for TIF – 2024-09-08 13:50:52

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 8, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Interventions for the housing crisis seem to have been locked by Maximos with the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the 88th TIF announcing a set of measures on how the real estate market can be relieved.

According to information from “OT”, the solution that seems to favor Maximos and concerns the stimulation of real estate supply is the further tax reductions for owners, specifically those who have closed properties and those who want to return from long-term leases to short-term ones.

The government adopts an older proposal by POMIDA that provides for a 100% tax exemption if the income comes from a new lease of a residence of at least three years

In particular, a three-year tax exemption on rental income is being considered for owners who will make their vacant properties available for rent or those they have on short-term leases

Essentially, the government adopts an earlier proposal by POMIDA which provides for a 100% tax exemption if the income comes from a new lease of a residence of at least three years’ duration, as long as the residence is leased to natural persons for use as their main residence and was vacant at least throughout the year 2023 or had active AMA short-term rental on 31.12.2023.

In the “war” and I am renovating-renting it

In the “arsenal” of the government there are two more tools to get more properties on the market. The reason for the “Renovate-Rent” program which will be relaunched with the subsidy increasing to 60% from the current 40%.

Homeowners with an annual income of up to 40,000 euros and real estate up to 300,000 euros can participate in the program, while those who have joined energy saving or renovation programs for any of their properties in the last five years are excluded.

The property must have an area of up to 100 sq.m. and located in an urban area, it must not have been declared as a first residence, or as rented but listed as vacant in the E2 of the last three years.

Those joining the program are subsidized for repair and renovation costs up to 10,000 euros.

Social housing is coming

By the end of 2024, the social compensation program will also start. The goal of the program is the construction of 2,500 social houses for 5,000 beneficiaries

Already the first ten plots of land of DYPA as written by OT are ripe for utilization so that the first social housing can be built there. These are plots both within Athens and in the periphery, Xanthi, Larissa.

The concession of the undeveloped plot will be made by DYPA and the contractor will be selected through a tender

DYPA will grant the undeveloped plot, for which the contractor will be selected after a tender, who will undertake to construct modern residential and commercial buildings, based on the specifications provided for in the notice.

My house 2

Changes to the design as well as to the financing are planned in the “My Home 2” program.

The new plan that will start in January 2025 will provide – in relation to the original -, expanded age limits for beneficiaries from 30-50 years old, as well as expanded income criteria, up to 40,000 euros.
