Jaylen Petty Joins Texas Tech Basketball After Recruiting Carousel
Guard Commits to Red Raiders Following Previous Pledges
Jaylen Petty, a highly-touted three-star guard in the 2025 recruiting class, has officially committed to Texas Tech, bringing an end to his dynamic recruitment journey.
A Talented Guard’s Path to Lubbock
The 6-foot point guard from Rainier Beach High School in Washington initially pledged his allegiance to New Mexico in September. However, a change in coaching staff prompted Petty to reopen his recruitment, leading to an April commitment to Stanford.
Just a few months later, in June, Petty once again explored his options. His decision now lands him with the Red Raiders, adding significant talent to their future roster.
Dominant High School Production
A Seattle native, Petty was instrumental in leading Rainier Beach to an impressive 28-3 record and a state championship this past season. His individual statistics were exceptional, averaging 24.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.
National Recognition
According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Petty is recognized as the No. 170 overall player in the 2025 class. He is also ranked as the No. 23 point guard nationally and holds the distinction of being the top player in Washington state.
As of May 2024, Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class ranks 26th nationally, according to 247Sports, with Petty‘s commitment bolstering their efforts. (Source: 247Sports)
