“New Money” Explores the Complications of Sudden Wealth in New Comedy
A new comedy, New Money, revisits characters from the 2019 film Free Money to explore the unexpected challenges that come with a $50 million windfall. The film, born from a desire to further develop beloved characters, recently premiered and is now available for viewing.
The project originated organically when the filmmaker wrote a new story featuring characters from Free Money and presented it to the actors. Their enthusiastic response - “Sure, yeah, absolutely” – propelled the film into production.The resulting story centers on the repercussions of a couple’s newfound riches, illustrating the theme that “more money, more problems.”
Filmmaker Rannu emphasized the crucial role of editing in shaping the final product, stating, ”In editing, you can make it or break it. And there are so many things that you can do in editing, especially all those micro nuances – what to focus on more, what to focus on less.”
Beyond the central couple,potential future installments are already being considered,with ideas circulating to expand the narrative and focus on supporting characters introduced in New Money. Rannu revealed, “A couple of good ideas are floating around already,” including stories that would broaden the scope of the Free Money and New Money universe.
