SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – San Diego County is forecast โคto receive rainfall by the end of โthe week as remnants of Hurricane Priscilla move โnorth alongโ theโ Baja California peninsula.
As of Monday afternoon, Hurricane Priscilla was located approximately 215 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California andโข is expected to โฃcontinue moving north-northeast over the nextโค few days. The storm is forecast to turn eastward, moving over northern Baja by Thursday.
Los Cabos is expected to experience tropicalโข storm-like โconditions, includingโ dangerous surf, heavy โขrain, and coastal flooding,โ into Tuesdayโ night. Priscilla has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane within the next 24 hours.
While the hurricane will encounter cooler seaโฃ surface temperatures and lose intensity as it parallels theโ western side of โthe Baja peninsula, anโฃ areaโ of low pressure dropping in fromโ the โคGulf of Alaska will funnel tropical moistureโ into Southern California. Rain chances will โbegin as early as Thursday and last through Saturday, peaking Friday in the mountains and deserts.
San Diego โขand Orange Counties may see mid to high-level clouds and โscattered showers as early as Thursday afternoon, with the most significantโฃ rainfall possibleโ late Thursday nightโ into Friday morning.Forecast models currently disagree on the amount of rainfall and โขprecise timing, requiring โupdates as the storm approaches.Even though Priscilla is tracking along the Baja coastline andโข may not generate surf as significant as Hurricane Narda, Friday is the day to monitor for โpotential surf impacts.โ
Following the passageโ of the tropical system, cooler and drier conditions are โขexpected for theโข weekend,โฃ with coastal temperatures in the low 70s and valley temperatures in theโ upper 70s.
