IMM UM Thursday Focal โฃDiscussion Highlights K3 โCulture and Disaster Preparedness
on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the IMM UM (Islamic Student โคAssociation of Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya) held aโ focal Discussion via Zoom Meeting, beginning at 7:30 PM WIB. The event drew 35 participants from the IMM UM extended family and theโ Batu City Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Centerโค (MDMC) team.
The interactive session featured โฃmoderator Ashhab Mubarok and two speakers: Ayunda Nadiya Istighfara andโค Arief nur Rahman. Ayunda Nadiya Istighfara focused on the importance of integrating Occupational Healthโ and Safety (K3) culture into daily life, while โคArief Nurโฃ Rahmanโ emphasizedโค disaster preparedness through the Disaster Safe Education โUnit (SPAB) program.
A central theme of the discussion, as highlighted by ayunda Nadiya Istighfara (known asโ Mbak โคFarah),โ was the disconnect between K3 knowledge and its practical submission. โข”Even people โwith good K3 knowledge do โฃnot necessarily apply it correctly, โbecause we often underestimate small things thatโข have the potential to be โa โdisaster,” she stated. Mbak Farah urged participants to cultivate K3 as a pervasive culture, extending beyond workplace โขprocedures to encompass โhomes and communities as a shared duty.
arief Nur Rahman underscored Indonesia’s vulnerability toโฃ a wide range of disasters, stating, “Indonesia can be called a disaster laboratory. All types of disasters have occurred in our country. Thus, teaching children about disaster โmitigation from an early age isโ very vital.” He โadvocated for the SPABโ program to transform schools and campuses into learning spaces โfor disasterโข preparedness, equipping โthe younger generation with the necessary โฃawareness and skills.
The discussion also addressed the recent collapse of a boarding school building in Sidoarjo, โฃprompting participants to critically examineโข building safety โฃoversight, adherence to K3 construction standards, and the accountability ofโข educational institutions in safeguarding student โlives.
The event concluded with a call to action: disaster risk awareness should be ingrained within organizational โขculture, education, โand daily life,โฃ rather than being โคreactive to specificโข events. The IMM UMโค Thursday Focal Discussion aimedโข to foster a proactive approach toโ safety and preparedness within the community.
