Doses against HPV arrive to protect girls from 9 to 14 years old

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 28, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Vaccinations from the 18 health regions of the MSPyBS will be supplied.

This vaccine is applied to girls of this age group to prevent cervical cancer.

All girls between the ages of 9 and 14 must receive the HPV vaccine, which is given free of charge at the Ministry of Health vaccination centers nationwide.

In this context, a batch of this vaccine arrived in the country, which will be distributed on demand to the sanitary regions of the Ministry of Health, to reinforce the stock of vaccinations.

The HPV vaccine can prevent cases of cervical cancer, since it represents 90% of HPV-associated tumors.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of more than 100 types of viruses that affects both women and men. High-risk types can cause the development of cervical cancer and other types of cancer.

In Paraguay, cervical cancer represents the first cause of death in women. For this reason, it is extremely important to prevent the disease with two fundamental tools: timely vaccination and early detection. Both actions can significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer.

In 2012, Paraguay introduced the vaccine that prevents HPV. This is applied intramuscularly, and its scheme consists of two doses, with a minimum interval of 6 months between the first and second doses.

To date, there is no antiviral drug to treat infection with this virus, so the only way to prevent infection with high-risk viruses is vaccination.

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare has an effective and safe vaccine, which provides 98-100% protection against cervical cancer and other types of cancers caused by HPV.

For this purpose, the vaccination brigades of the XI Sanitary Region – Central will be in the premises, on the day and time mentioned. This action is due to the confirmation of the measles case in the country, added to several other suspects.

The health portfolio, through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), insists on vaccinating children against measles, a highly contagious and dangerous disease, as well as the others established in the country’s regular vaccination schedule, one of the best and most complete in the region.

new scheme

As a strategy to increase the protection of boys and girls in less time, a change was made in the vaccination scheme, it is the triple viral vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella), which is applied, as usual, the first dose at 12 months of life, and in the new update the second dose is brought forward at 18 months.

The new vaccination scheme for the triple viral vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is carried out as follows:

Measles: lack of immunization can lead to an outbreak of the disease

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 17, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Since measles is a highly contagious disease, 90 to 95% of the population must be vaccinated against it, however, coverage has been below 80% for several years, a situation that makes health vulnerable because, if confirmed cases appear, this will present a real danger for the expansion of an outbreak. A single sick person can infect 18 more.

It is important to notify suspected cases by health professionals, pediatricians, in the presence of fever and rash plus a respiratory condition, at this time when there are also cases of arbovirosis. This year, regarding the epidemiological week SE 1 to 7, 393 cases of febrile eruptive illness have been reported.

When to think about measles and make the notification?

When fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and rash occur.

Through the notification of suspected cases, the corresponding actions are used to confirm or rule out the disease. Likewise, the necessary interventions are carried out to avoid the expansion of the case.

For this reason, at a press conference, Dr. Héctor Castro, director of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), reminded parents and guardians of the importance of keeping the vaccination booklet for boys and girls updated, as well as complying with the consultations pediatric.

For her part, Dr. Ana Campuzano, president of the Paraguayan Pediatric Society, emphasized that this serious disease is completely preventable with vaccination, “the effectiveness of the vaccine is greater than 90%,” she stressed.

Edgar Ríos, deputy defender of the Ministry of Public Defense, expressed the commitment and accompaniment of the institution in the immunization of children, since fathers, mothers, representatives, guardians or those in charge of custody of minors must comply with this responsibility and obligation, established in article 6 of Law No. 4621/2015 “National Vaccines”.

It is a child’s right to be protected against diseases preventable by vaccination and, in turn, it is an obligation of parents or guardians and of the State to guarantee their right to health.

Finally, Alcira Sosa, vice minister of the Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC), highlighted that, starting Monday, February 20, educational institutions will be requesting the vaccination booklet for schoolchildren to identify those who do not have the complete regular immunization schedule.

This weekly press conference was accompanied by Dr. Guillermo Seguera, General Director of Health Surveillance, and Dr. Rafael Obregón, representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Vaccinate your children to protect them

The new vaccination scheme for the triple viral vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is carried out as follows:

• The boy or girl should receive their first dose of the MMR vaccine at 12 months of age and the second dose at 18 months. This modification applies to those born in August 2021.

• Children 18 months or older with a history of vaccination, administer two doses with a minimum interval of 1 month between doses.

• Likewise, parents of children 18 months and older pending receiving the second dose should bring them to the vaccination center in order to complete their scheme.

Before travelling, complete your vaccination schedule

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 21, 2022
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

With the beginning of the summer season, many people will take their holidays outside our country; Having the complete vaccination schedule is essential to take care of travellers’ health.

With the recent increase in cases of respiratory symptoms in the country and the start of the summer season, the recommendation to complete vaccination doses, mainly against COVID-19, is being extended.

Dr. Héctor Castro, director of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) stressed that “we are in a moment of social encounter, which makes us loosen some preventive measures or even not maintain the rest that we must maintain if we are studying a respiratory condition and this situation increases the number of infections”.

It should be remembered that the latest epidemiological update detailed that there are more than 2,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 60% belong to reinfected people. There were 130 hospitalized for respiratory symptoms and 11 people admitted to intensive care units.

“What we are seeing in the tables for COVID-19 is that two elements coincide: they are elderly people or people with underlying diseases, and they do not have full vaccinations or are not vaccinated. The difference with what we already live with is that, having immunity or protection with vaccines, serious cases are very unlikely and very rare,” added Dr. Héctor Castro.

The director of the Expanded Immunization Program took advantage of the opportunity to urge citizens to complete their vaccination program: “the minimum interval between booster doses continues to be four months. You must complete the pattern as soon as possible. Time doesn’t count, the important thing is to finish.”

For citizens wishing to travel abroad during the summer season, the recommendations of the PAI director are to maintain the electronic vaccination certificate and always have the physical copy at hand, beyond the fact that the countries with the most frequent travelers do not require it as a requirement. Also, it is essential to complete the vaccination calendar two weeks before starting the trip.

Please note that the yellow fever vaccine is applied only once and the vaccination certificate is mandatory to travel to the most popular destinations for travellers.
