Journalist Henri Sannier Details Years-Longโค Battle with Autoimmune Disease, Triumphant Return to Walking
French journalist and television personality Henri Sannier recently opened up about his struggle with chronic polyradiculoneuritis, a serious autoimmune disease that left him unable to walk โfor two years. Sannier shared โhis experiences on the programโ “Un Dimanche ร โ la Campagne,”โ detailingโ the physical challengesโ and emotional resilience required throughout his recovery.
The diagnosis followed a bicycle accident,โ but Sannier emphasized the disease itself was the primary obstacle. Despite being โinitially unable to perform โฃbasic tasks like buttoning a shirt or โคtying his shoes, he maintained hope and refusedโฃ to accept a permanent loss of mobility. “I said to myself: ‘I’m going to take off,'” Sannier recounted, describing hisโ determination even whileโ feeling “amorphousโฆ a vegetable.” He opted to receiveโค care solely from his wife, stating a preference for her support over professionalโข caregivers.
Sannier described a pivotal moment inโข hisโข recovery – reaching for medication three meters away and successfully walking to retrieve it. The following day,โ his grandchildren’s applause โขas he walked againโค became “the โbest day of my life,” fueling hisโ continued progress. He gradually increased his walking distance, calling it “a Renaissance.”
