Minister Lawal Launches Committees to Strengthen Accreditation, Special Duties
ABUJA – Minister of Education Tahir Mamman Lawal inaugurated Accreditation โand Special Duties Subcommittees on October 24, 2025, tasking them with bolstering quality โขassuranceโ andโข efficient service delivery withinโ the Federalโ Ministry of Education. The move signals a renewed โfocus on maintaining educational standards and streamliningโ critical operational functions.
The newly formed committees are expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of accreditation processes for โeducational institutionsโฃ nationwide, while theโฃ Special Duties Subcommittee โwill โขconcentrate on optimizing the execution of key ministry initiatives.โ This initiative directly โคimpacts students, educators, and theโ overall credibility of Nigeria’s education system, with outcomes potentially influencing future funding allocations and international recognition. The committees will report directlyโฃ to the Minister,โ providing regular updates and recommendations for improvement.
Lawal emphasized the โคimportance of the Accreditation Subcommittee โฃin upholding the quality of education, stating, “Accreditation is theโ bedrock of a credible education system. These committees must ensure that our institutions meet and exceed established standards.” He further โcharged the Special Duties โSubcommittee with enhancing the โeffectiveness of ministry programs, stressing the needโ for accountability and timely completionโข of projects.
Theโ Accreditation Subcommittee is chaired by Professor Abubakar Rasheed, former executive Secretaryโ of the National Universities Commission (NUC), bringing โคextensive โขexperience to the role.The โคSpecial duties Subcommittee will be lead by mr. David Adejo, the Permanent โฃSecretary of the Federal Ministry of Education. Both subcommittees comprise โrepresentatives from various departments within the ministry and relevant educational agencies.
