Gardaรญ have arrested a man and a woman in โขtheir 30s and seized over โฌ90,000 in a crackdown on suspicious ATM withdrawals across Cork and Dublin. The operation, led by the Garda National Economic Crime โฃBureau, follows weeks of investigation into a series โof large-scale cash extractions.
the โขfraudulent transactions, which occurred โbetweenโข August 11th and September 9th, involved bank cards connected to accountsโข in Poland and Norway. The investigation โbegan following reports of unusually high withdrawalsโ from ATMs in both cities. A search of a โคvehicle in Lucan, Dublin, uncoveredโฃ a important amount of cashโข and multiple โbank cards, leading to the arrest of a โman in his earlyโค 30s. A woman, also in her 30s,โ was later detained. Both remain โin custody at a Dublin-area Garda station.
Further searches conducted in Cork yielded additional cash,โ foreign currency, fraudulent identification documents, bank cards, and mobile phones.The total value of seized โขassets exceeds โฌ90,000. Gardaรญ are currently collaborating with international authorities through Europol to trace the compromised accounts in โฃPoland and Norway.
