First Look Inside Redevelopment of Sydney Fishโ Market as Housing Capacity Increases
Sydney, NSW – A first look inside the redevelopment of the Sydney โFish Market reveals plans โfor up toโข 1,600 new homes in the Blackwattle Bay area, an increase from the previously slated 1,200 apartments. The site has been rezoned to accommodate theโข additionalโค housing,โฃ according to Infrastructure NSW.
The โambitiousโ project aims to โtransform the Pyrmontโ peninsula, โคnotโฃ only with notable residential development but also โwithโค improved publicโข access. Plansโข include a continuous foreshore โขboardwalk connectingโข the Glebe Foreshore walk to the current and newโ fish market sites, โฃand theโฃ ferry terminal. This expansion comes as the state goverment seeks to increase โฃhousing density in key urbanโค areas.
CEO of Infrastructure NSW, Tom โGellibrand, stated the additional housing โคwillโ be built on bothโ the fish โmarket site and neighbouring private land.โค “Our plan is to put a โคforeshore boardwalk out over โคthe harbour so it will be continuous โfor โpeople,” Mr Gellibrand said.
Redevelopment of the Pyrmont site forโ housing โis expected to begin “soon,” with the governmentโฃ aiming to engage a developer by the end of the year, pending approvals.
The opening date for the new Sydney Fish Market remains unconfirmed.
